    Pros

Good company to start your career. You can shift between group within the company and learn different skills ranging from hardware design to validation to software development to next generation software research

    Cons

Lacks focus on software development. Selling software is not the focus of the company. Software projects get cancelled mid-way because Intel software vendor is working on the same idea.

    Pros

Benefits, schedule, flexibility, stability (until recently).

The people you work with on a day-to-day basis are very smart. You get to work on the cutting edge technology. The processes are well defined, hence the work environment is not very chaotic. Internal transfer system and temporary assignments allow for career development opportunities, which are good for the most part.

    Cons

The review system is very screwed up. It is entirely dependent on your manager's perception of your performance. It is very subjective, and there is no clear criteria on how you are graded. It is up to the manager to decide your rank and rating. It is important to do things that are visible to your manager so you are recognized. In most cases these don't contribute to real value. For instance speaking up in meetings even if you have nothing useful to say will get you a lot of recognition from short sighted managers. They also have way too many managers who do not get involved in the day to day work of the employee but still reserve the right to judge their performance independent of peer reviews.

The culture is also shifting away from the core values under BK. The upper management stealthily tries to remove good people under the garb of performance management. People rated successful are being terminated because they landed on the wrong side of the successful scale (based on a manager's rating, which could be biased). Risk taking and innovation are not being rewarded. The only thing that matters is that you fall in line and impress your manager.

The overall company direction under BK also does not make sense. There is a lot of marketing fluff with the diversity hiring. On the one hand they lay-off successful experienced employees and on the other hand they want to lower the bar for entry with diversity only reqs (a $300M fund for diversity hiring). Positions that have diversity hires will be funded by HR for over a year.

    Advice to Management

Take another look at the performance review system. Eliminate the large and bulky middle management. A more flat organization will promote collaboration and lead to faster project turnaround.

The repeated layoffs cause an enormous amount of churn in the workplace.

    Advice to Management
