I have been working at Intelligent Decisions

    Pros

Good pay, great benefits (20 days PTO plus every government holiday!)

    Cons

Not very organized. Very high manager to worker bee ratio. Tasking is often outside your job description.

I have been working at Intelligent Decisions full-time

    Pros

Good monetary compensation, good leave policy

    Cons

The company is unreasonably stingy in terms of benefits - short term disability pay out is a joke (an issue for employees who fall ill or go on maternity leave), 401K contribution is minimal and not competitive, health insurance coverage is pretty lousy.

There is little to no opportunity for upward mobility. Management appears to be stuck in their ways.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Share the wealth with your employees, literally and figuratively.

    I worked at Intelligent Decisions

    Pros

Pay and benefits were slightly above average, if you can keep your job.

    Cons

Company only has a few contracts so when the contract I was on was downsized after only 2 1/2 months of working for them, there wasn't another position for me to go to and they laid me off. That's the first time in 20 years that this has happened.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stay involved with what your off site employees who are on government contracts are doing, and make sure they are happy and the customer is happy so you aren't surprised when the contract loses a position. Make sure you know what skills your employees have so that you can place them more easily if the contract they are working on is downsized. Remember that you are dealing with people who have families and bills to pay. Make more of an effort to find work for them before you kick them to the curb.

    Pros

ID kept me on board for over a year to do internal work despite losing the contract I was originally hired for. They helped me get my security clearance figured out and made sure I was happy.

    Cons

ID is really two companies. One in VA and one in MD. The leadership at the top is good, but there is infighting and mismanagement below them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep engineers happy by buttoning up middle management. Reward VPs whose business grows.

I have been working at Intelligent Decisions full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Health and dental benefits on par with similar companies in this industry. 401K matching (small, but better than nothing!). PTO plan is great.

    Cons

The company does not keep up with growth. Essentially the same amount of support personnal supporting over 500 employees now are the same people here when the company only had to support 200 employees. This means that the company is incredibly inefficient and that the customer (internal AND external) experience is last on the priority list. For example, we have 1 person paying all the invoices for everything. If she goes on vacation, nothing gets paid. You would think we'd have a team of 3 or more, but no. Just 1.

I'm not aware of a company "vision." I don't know where we were or where we are going. Irrelevant probably. Management couldn't get us there anyway.

ID says it is a leading company in the IT space. It still issues all employees Blackberries.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's been 5 years since ID has been on the top 50 places to work list for D.C. There's a reason for that. Please spend some time to learn what needs to change from your employees AND THEN DO IT.
