    Good place to work.

    Project Manager (Former Employee)

ProsPay is pretty good, but they have great benefits. Opportunity to work work world-wide. Challenging work. Friendly work environment. Flexible work schedule.

ConsGrew to fast - leading to lay offs. Mostly government contract work = unstable job security. not the company's fault, just a fact. Politics and "good old boy" system define higher than mid-level management.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to expand your market from government only work to include work for state and commercial clients to ensure a longer life cycle for products developed AND maintained to help with employee retention and avoid lay-off due to NOT getting anticipated contracts.

Did not transition well from small to medium size. Misjudged military funding climate. Untrained management.

Software Engineer III (Former Employee) Colorado Springs, CO

ProsGreat ability to experiment in your technical and management skills. There are some great people who really believe in what they do and wish to be more, they just need managers who can empower them.

ConsUnclear vision and strategy. Lack of governance across all projects and technologies. Lack of reusing ideas, code, and expertise across programs. Too much in-fighting.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou are the only hope for the company. Too many mid level managers and some directors waste resources. Learn to excel at several few things and dominate a market. Everything else is wasting time and energy.

    Good People to Work With

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsISS is full of quality people who are dedicated to getting the job done and getting a quality product out the door.

ConsLost focus on what made the company successful, developing a product that solves the customers problems. Instead, ISS is developing products that the engineers think the customer should use.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere is a lack of communication and interaction by the senior managers of the company with the company itself. The only time a senior manager can be seen interacting with their employees is in formal meeting situations.

ISS was a good place to work for many years.

Senior Software Engineer (Former Employee) Colorado Springs, CO

ProsGood salary and benefits. Plenty of opportunity for personal growth. At one time there were opportunities to deploy overseas.

ConsSometimes efforts lacked good requirements development and were planned on the fly. The company has had recent layoffs.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe careful about controlling growth. Also, expand your markets from GOTS work to include work for commercial clients as well for diversity.

    Good company, contracting hurts.

Software Engineer III (Current Employee) Colorado Springs, CO

ProsMgmt seems to care about the employees. They offer many benefits. The work week is flexible if coordinated with your manager and very family centric.

ConsContracts having funding in limbo can hurt this company with layoffs being the result. Overall they try to plan for these events but it is not always successful. The threat of loss of job is sometimes unnerving.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to leverage what people already have discovered. No need to completely reinvent the wheel if the current wheel just needs a new tire.

Company grew too big, too fast for the in place management to handle effectively.

Requirements Analyst (Former Employee) Colorado Springs, CO

ProsMiddle management keeps this company afloat, TONS of great people work here. Pay's pretty well, but the benefits are amazing.

ConsUpper management is completely out of touch with goals, timelines, personnel, and their own products.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet a clue of the people you have working for you, there is some exceptional talent being wasted, while there is also a lot of fat to be trimmed. You have a leadership vacuum problem that if not corrected soon will continue to have adverse effects on the companies long term future.

    Poor communication

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGood benefits, good co-workers, team works well together

ConsManagement has poor or no communication skills, leaving team to piece together full picture of what is expected and needed to complete job; lacks career path guidance and opportunities. Lacks caring for balance of work/home.

Great potential but corporate structure limits growth

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsMost people are customer focus and really want to deliver value.
The software products change the fundamental way organizations collect and use.information.
    Great benefits.

    ConsPolitics define the organizational chart.
Teams tend to work on their products with little to no overlap, which creates internal competition and confuses the customer.
There's no investment in employee training/advancement.

Advice to Senior ManagementBest-in-class software companies are structured with two organizations - One focused on products and one focused on customers. The ISS structure is complicated and confusing with the need for a restructure at the Corporate level down being obvious.
Investment in employee development for both technical and soft skills is needed.
