Pros
Benefits and compensation were good
Cons
Not always treated fairly. Good old boys club
Advice to Senior Management
treat employees with respect and fairly
Pros
Fun is important. Even when the job sucks, you still feel like everybody's in it together. As a member of the global ecommerce team, you get to work with alot of intelligent people and get to be part of some very creative solutions. The diversity of the team is fantastic.
Cons
With any large technology organizations, you'll see some bad decisions being made and supported from the top down. The hours can be a little insane, seeing as it's a global company and you have to interact/support groups around the world.
Pros
Nice place to work. Voted one of the best.
Cons
Area traffic congestion is a nightmare.
Pros
Competitive pay, good benefits, not a bad culture and general environment at Ravinia (HQ building near 285). Everyone who's moved from the data center (Alpharetta) to Ravinia says that it's a completely different, and much better, environment.
Cons
I was generally unimpressed with Tom Conophy as the CIO. He was insulting and disrespectful to some of the groups under him and that's just unacceptable from a leadership position. IT at IHG had some very good technical folks but management never seemed to have a cohesive plan and different VPs were often running off in opposite directions. In particular the data center (DC) was often treated like an unwanted step-child and senior management in the building is completely lacking in leadership. They're nice enough folks to chat with in the hall on the rare occasions they leave their offices but their game plan seems to be "don't make waves". Unfortunately, that doesn't get much done. They're understaffed and the general mood in the DC is gloomy, largely due to disorganization, a constant stream of "we need this tomorrow" projects and lack of support from the aforementioned management when you try to push back.
Advice to Senior Management
Data center management needs to get the book "Drive" by Daniel Pink, read it (only 146 pages) and take its message to heart. They need to become dynamic and develop a plan to build a data center where people where people are proud to work. They need to market what the data center does for the company and what more it could do.
Pros
good company, great environment, flexible
Cons
many people doing jobs the have no background in so they aren't subject matter experts
Advice to Senior Management
make friends, build an alliance
Pros
its all good to work at IHG
Cons
I dont see any issue working
Advice to Senior Management
keep doing better job expanding business in the hotel service business. it has been great to see the reviews and services provided
Pros
Beautiful office with a garden downstairs
Cons
Very clickish and hostile place to work. There is incompetence which is observed at high levels and it is tolerated. Hard and productive work is not recongnized. HR is not serving interests of employees. There is no outlet to discuss concerns.
Advice to Senior Management
Recongnize good work of employees and promote based on merit
Pay based on productivity and work effort
Pros
Most depts at IHG have a flexible supportive work schedule. Summer hours offer a 1/2 day off each week by working 4 10 hour days. In good years, the bonus program is wonderful, in bad years it doesn't exist. The office space at Ravinia is very nice with a shuttle to Perimeter and Marta.
Cons
As a foreign owned company, it can be hard to get big decisions made to keep the company nimble. It is a very conservative company. New managers aren't trained to be good managers and incompetence is allowed to continue. It is tough to move among departments and up the ladder. Office politics and "clicks" can cause roadblocks in getting work done which is disappointing.
Advice to Senior Management
New managers/ directors need better training and coaching. Cross functional training or job shadowing would help employees gain a stronger understanding of other departments and the company as a whole. Communication from senior management could be better. 360 reviews would help in situations where poor managers aren't trained to grow employees and give helpful feedback.
Pros
Flexible, opportunities to travel, good benefits package, decent salaries
Cons
Very difficult to move up within the company, promotions don't always go to the most qualified people
Advice to Senior Management
IHG needs to work on developing more opportunities for career training and advancement
Pros
Fairly good compensation
Usually competent, friendly peers on teams
Cons
ongoing overwork for some people
No career planning or growth plan supported.
Management by fear at many levels
HR exists to protect senior management.
Advice to Senior Management
Actually support the official corporate philosophy or change it.
Allow meaningful, anonymous evaluation of your manager at all levels.
