Former Employee – worked at InterContinental Hotels
Pros – Have LOTS of money to waste.
Very generous to employees (even if they suck).
Good place to work if you want to convert to an idiot in < 1 year.
Cons – Everything else. I haven't been able to figure out 1 thing they are strong in. Listing a few.
NO leadership.
Almost zero technical expertise in the leadership. They can't even make 1 seasoned decision on technology without doing 200 meetings and spending thousands.
Politics and lots of it.
Blame game and lots of it. Teams come up with fake and completely baseless accusation on other teams to cover their own mistake. Only happens at IHG.
Too many talkers, very less doers.
Unstable production due to the above and complete inability to troubleshoot.
Corruption - conflict of interest. Managers/Directors create fake positions to fill with their own contractors, benefiting their pockets. Most teams are less than 50% utilized.
Most people who love working at IHG, don't know how retarded you will feel once you start your job search.
Advice to Senior Management – Change the culture if you want to turn this company around.
Start with cleansing the technical leadership. Bring in strong technical leaders with passion, innovation, morals and values with proven track records instead of people who you know already (and they are retards).
Cut the corruption before it hits media.
Bring ownership and accountability.
Too many projects were run and didn't make it to production, just got scrapped because they ran out of budget. No one is held accountable when projects are scrapped after spending millions.

Current Employee – been working at InterContinental Hotels
Pros – New and exciting technology in use, new challenges to tackle.
Cons – There is a high level of contractors that come and go on the IT team. This prevents some groups from having a "team" environment.

Current Employee – been working at InterContinental Hotels
Pros – World-wide employee discounts at hotels, excellent training seminars, great opportunities for advancement, a company that really seems to care about its employees.
Cons – As a salaried employee in the hospitality field, there is no such thing as a 40-hour work week. Advancement opportunities may take a while.

Current Employee – been working at InterContinental Hotels
Pros – People are friendly, generally great team spirit. Some members of the Executive team are inspiring. Others are irratic. Good community outreach/involvement
Cons – Micromanagement of competent employees while they look the other way with lousy employees. Massive abuse of time off and calling out sick (well beyond amount of time that is offered in benefits package) with no consequences. Then the work falls on the shoulders of people who actually show up on time, when they are scheduled. Worked at the new hotel and then the Mark and it's much nicer work environment at the older property.
Advice to Senior Management – Crack down on abuse of time off by employees who have no PTO or Vacation days. It's rampant and although it saves the dept money in the form of unpaid days off, you're killing those of us who actually only take time that's in our PTO or vacation bank.

Current Employee – been working at InterContinental Hotels
Pros – Flexible schedule, somewhat friendly atmosphere and our co-workers are great and try there best under the owners who need to get some professional managment help.
Cons – Minimal pay no benefits, no paid vacation but you can take one, the owners are forigners so there is a big culture difference. They try to run everything on there own instead of bringing in the proper help to support them. They do everything on the cheap instead of getting the job done in a timley manner.
The owners wife and family members breathe down your back like a dragon.
Advice to Senior Management – Get some proper management help instead of trying to juggle every thing yourself it really messes up the whole process of running your 3 hotels.

Current Employee – been working at InterContinental Hotels
Pros – The company offers excellent training opportunities, outstanding benefits, and rewards hard work. IHG is a fair employer. You get out what you put in. Always understanding of the work/life balance and though it is a large company, it is like an extended family.
Cons – As with many large companies, the wheels turn slowly. That is to be expected. Decision making in an organization this size is not to be taken lightly. It effects so many people.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep doing what you're doing. We have a great thing going and I for one am proud to be a part of the team!

Current Employee – been working at InterContinental Hotels
Pros – Co-workers were great people to work with! We worked soo many extra long hours together, that we didn't have much other choice then to become a family. Beautiful environment and to work with a chance to meet many A List stars.
Cons – Payscale, PTO, secruity checked personals everytime you walked in and out of the door for work because upper management did not trust the workers!
Advice to Senior Management – Have more faith in the staff and choose your battles more wisely! Do not write a person up for taking a Harbour Court pen outside of the building as you have many people. Do not eat so many gourmet meals in front of the hardworking staff and supply uniforms with fabric that breathes. The people work long hours in uniforms that keep your body temperature at 100 degrees. Treat others as you want to be treated. Pay more then $12.50 an hour to your supervisors.
