    Pros

The culture at IHG is great. Everyone supports you and overall great benefits.

    Cons

There are no cons. Maybe that in order to get something approved through the chain, it takes awhile to get done.

I have been working at InterContinental Hotels Group

    Pros

Very collaborative with digital marketing strategy. Work/life balance is important to them.

    Cons

It's a hotel company first, technology company second. This can make digital marketing challenging sometimes and technology implementation slow.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Training needs to be better, a mentor program for lower bands would be beneficial so that they can start growing in their careers as soon as they start.

Perform well, and you'll rise through the ranks. It's nothing to do with "who you know".

I have been working at InterContinental Hotels Group full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Professional and friendly culture, full of passionate people who really care about our guests' experience. IHG has one of the best cultures of any company in the world (not just within the hospitality industry) - as marked by many annual awards, worldwide. They are transparent and engaging as an employer, giving employees "room to be yourself", and make it extremely clear what each individual has to do in order to develop themselves, and potentially rise through the ranks. It is nothing at all to do with who you know, it's all based on your own personal performance, which every employee has the chance to discuss with their leader(s) several times a year. IHG promotes diversity and is proud of its involvement in government, social and community issues impacting our employees and guests, as well as supporting human rights causes and being a great local employer. There are mentoring opportunities available, as well as great training for the current job and beyond.

    Cons

Employees who are not putting in 100% in to their own development can get very irritated when they see people being promoted around them. This, in turn, can get irritating to the rest of the team; IHG has a very "kind" approach to its employees which can mean, at times, that poor performance (including people "sulking" when they are not progressed through the ranks) is sometimes not managed as well as it should be as quickly as it should be dealt with.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Crack down on the "sulkers" who are not putting effort into their own development, and let them know it's all in their own hands - that it's not a conspiracy against them. Be tough when you have to; don't let poor performers or serial complainers affect the rest of the happy team.

I have been working at InterContinental Hotels Group full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

There are plenty of opportunities for advancement. They are very open to allowing employees to move between roles and offer many temporary assignments.

    Cons

Senior leadership isn't always aligned which can present conflicting direction. Project teams tend to take projects to about 80% completion then they move on to the next priority.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Aligning the focus between departments and getting all teams pointed in the same direction would streamline things.

I have been working at InterContinental Hotels Group as a contractor (more than 5 years)

    Pros

IHG is a great place to work. IHG strives to be the best place to work and creates a culture where people are free to be themselves, free to grow. They invest in their employees and offers a vast amount of opportunities and benefits.

    Cons

The challenge for contractors to be come full time employees. This can keep contractors stagnate and limits their ability to grow.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Considering that this is a hospitality, I would make sure that the IHG model is implement for all employees regardless of employment status. Aim higher to make sure that all employees are reaching their maximum potential.

I have been working at InterContinental Hotels Group

    Pros

IHG truly cares about its employees. There is an emphasis on work-life balance and the salaries are very competitive.

    Cons

It's difficult for outsiders to find a way into the company. You have to know someone to make your way in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to listen to your employees.

I have been working at InterContinental Hotels Group full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Company is concerned about the community and environment.
Training is often available if it is tied to your direct career development.
Most people are great to work with.

    Cons

Management will take financial short-cuts to save a few dollars (reducing headcount, using inferior systems) but will pay exorbitant fees to consultants for window-dressing policies.
Some areas prefer to bring in middle- and senior-level management from the outside than promote from within. This would be fine if those hired had an understanding of the industry.
Those that are more about politics will do better in this company.
Policies get reversed on a regular basis. If you don't like a practice, don't worry. Iit will be gone in two years anyway.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Utilize people that know the industry and company over newly hired management with no industry experience.

  11. A place where enablement is something all levels of employees can experience.

    Pros

    Great work / life balance.

Opportunties to take advantage of doing philanthropy work & it is encouraged.

For a driven individual you can find success in this company.

    Cons

Consensus management style; which makes change harder to see happening.

Political matrix is hard to see but definitely exists.
