Pros
excellent facilities, experienced healthcare personnel, leading healthcare corporation
Cons
pay rate is mediocre compared to other states.
Advice to Senior Management
LOVE IT.
Pros
Great compensation, good people to work with, education reimbursements, great healthcare because they own their own insurance company, educational opportunities within the company
Cons
You have to work with doctors. A few of them can be good people, but the majority have a God complex.
Pros
If you can get into a department with a good manager, there is a lot of flexibility and ability to balance personal and work life. There are some really great people who work for the organization -- in all deparments.
Cons
The organization is huge -- over 30,000 employees -- and sometimes it becomes very bureaucratic. I have also noticed that there is a disconnect between people who work in administration and those who work in the trenches.
Advice to Senior Management
Remember that your employees are your biggest asset! You have talented people working in every position, and just because they don't work in an office, doesn't mean they are dispensable.
Pros
Very large corporation for the market; Consistently beats budget even in bad economy. Very tech oriented, high level of computer literacy is expected.
Cons
Very tech oriented, high level of computer literacy is expected. If you are not tech savvy this is probably not the best place to work. Pay is atrocious compared to level of work and technical ability that is expected. Be prepared to work well out of the bounds of your roll, this is both a pro and con good experience but salary is very bad. The biggest con is that there is a regimented structure at administrative level, if you did not go to one of the preferred schools, it is very difficult to climb corporate ladder. Not impossible but more difficult.
Advice to Senior Management
Be ready to handle problems that are not traditional to described position.
Pros
Benefits are good. Good work environment. Stable company with reasonable hours.
Cons
Pay could be a lot better.
Advice to Senior Management
None.
Pros
Family friendly atmosphere, lots of flexibility in work opportunities, nice people to work with.
Cons
Your overall experience generally depends on how good your supervisor is, tendency to feel isolated in your department.
Pros
Great people and teams. They really tried to stick to their mission and values. Very understanding when it comes to personal issues.
Cons
Like others have posted here it is the good ol' boys club. It is very difficult to move up in the organization even with education and experience.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay needs to increase. I know of so many that have chosen to look out of state because pay is below median. It is sometimes hard to believe that you care for the employees.
Pros
It is stable and has good job security.
Cons
Performing good or bad doesn't make too much difference.
Pros
Try very hard to get feedback from employees. Live their mission. Non-profit, supports community with huge amounts of charity care. Very successful, they win in the marketplace. Smart and competent colleagues. Try very hard to balance, cost control, employee engagement, healing, and community stewardship. Strong, healthy, intentional culture.
Cons
Some employees have sense of entitlement and are out of touch with competitive nature of business. Maybe too insulated. "Nice" culture can interfere with tough conversations and difficult decisions. Pay must be regionally aligned as size of organization really is the immediate market, forcing smaller players to pay higher, gives perception of lower wages.
Advice to Senior Management
Differentiate more on performance, less on tenure.
Pros
Flexibility, Exerience, Values and mutual respect. Excellent job security, never worried about lay-offs. Long term career opportunities, with great benefits.
Cons
Advancement can be slow. Quite often must change jobs within organization to move up and gain better opportunities. Pay seems to be lower than national average.
Advice to Senior Management
HR process for advancing employees is extremely cumbersome. Once told team I would stay with them and keep my two years experience if they match the job offer by a lateral team, in the same department, and HR policy restricted that high of a move at one time. That's just crazy.
