IFF also heavily invests into its research and development. The R&D is based on the foundation of sustainability and the company is embedding sustainability into all aspects of its business.

I have been working at International Flavors full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

flexible schedule, some work very interesting (only because I love the subject), some very smart, committed people, doing great work inspite of management.

    Cons

no future, regardless of your accomplishments. everything is boiled down to a "metric" or number. How many X did you you do, not what did you do and what value came from it. Management has 2 or 3 favorites because they keep their mouth shut - comply don't think!! No critical thinking here. Again, very little advancement. I've seen outstanding workers, very productive committed people, at the same level for 30 years. Forget about any career development - althought it's spouted by senior executives, there are no chances to learn or further develop your craft. Everything I've learned here is beacuse I did it myself without going through managment. And did it on my own time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please listen to the people below director levels. We know what is and is not working. Please be honest and look at the development opportunities for everyone, not just the select few. Spend some money to upgrade equipment (ours is > 14 years old) that is on it's last leg.

    - Manager was very nice
    - Pay was decent
    - Worked when it was convenient for me
    - Always smelled great

    Cons

    - Easy to get lost (because there are so many people and because the building is quite confusing)
    - Instructions can be unclear
    - Didn't like the atmosphere (lots of swearing in the office)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

    interesting industry
    challenging work
learning enviornment: must have the ability to educate yourself on issues; they do NOT show a new employee the ropes

    Cons

    senior management treats staff disrespectfully
leadership has very poor interpersonal/communication skills
lack of team spirit; everyone is out for themselves

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at International Flavors

    Pros

Cheap lunch at cafeteria. Great location midtown Manhattan, near central park. Awesome same sex dating scene. Discounts available at local museums(I am not sure if this is still available.) Fine Perfume group loves to share fragrances. Dress is casual business, no jeans, but you can express your creativity in the way you dress.

    Cons

It is not about the quality of your work, but rather about ones ability to keep their mouth shut, which is the best way to become well liked at IFF. There is little room for advancement for most. Every year the benefits are reduced. No more pension, health care cost increases. 401K is shabby. No bones about it HR is in place to protect the company and Senior management. The best way to handle an issue involving sexual harassment or physical threats by management is not to go to HR. If you point out a problem you will be made to feel badly and your job/career will be put in jeopardy. The present CEO knows nothing of the industry, and thinks that all companies should be run exactly the way the last company, paper company, he was at was run. The CEO is hypocritical, unapproachable and obnoxious. Since he has been installed at IFF every area of the business has been struggling. The board of directors is awful! They have made mistake, after mistake, after mistake for the past 20 years, it has been painful. Members change and are replaced by equal or worse candidates. Senior managment are becoming millionaires while the stock holders' investment is wasted on unearned bonuses.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Unless they are willing to all quite, so that competent people can replace them, they should just continue to fail. Once the company is completely in shambles, maybe, a competitor can purchase IFF and the "guys", gals are not welcome, in charge can make some money on the sale of their options when the price goes up from the acquisition.
