I have been working at International Game Technology full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Coworkers are amiable for the most part. Work life balance is good.

    Cons

So many layers of middle management, impossible to advance or get a raise unless you throw people under the bus. A lot of people that are calling the shots are out of touch. CEO is corrupt, and her away status reaches days in triple digits. Reno HQ has an odd superiority complex.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to thin yourselves, too many channels need to be consulted when we want something as simple as a hard drive. (It took me 2 years.) You have talented people eager to do much more, but there absolutely no incentives to work harder than what is needed. Old methods that worked in the 80's don't work now, change your scope and your courses of action. The newer generation of employees aren't moved by fear, and will find employment elsewhere.

    Pros

Good Work-Life Balance on powder days many people take a half day or come in late, Tuition reimbursement, OK Intellectual Property bonuses, will pay for and for outside training regularly

    Cons

Hard to advance which is often blamed on lack of funding to promote then behind giving promotions to those that deserve it first, recent declines in benefits, blame culture (although it is getting better), industry has hard times ahead,

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be careful about becoming competitors with our clients, keep reducing the blame culture while improving on giving promotions and merit increase when they are due and you'll lose fewer talented people.

I have been working at International Game Technology full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

people were wonderful to work with. benefits were great in the beginning, but like all corp's these days, the benies are not what they used to be.

    Cons

expectations of personnel working long hard hours was unbelievable; Reno worked long hours, Beijing did as well. However, right under corporate headquarters noses, these folks worked less than their 8. In by 9a, hour and a half lunches and out the door long before 5p ever hit. And NO ONE ever said a thing to anyone about it. EVER!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

take a real hard look at who you have working. there are not many actual 'working' personnel anymore and the ones there are not the ones who created the beast. plus, with fewer 'workers' the load is heavy and the people just are not going to do ALL the work. too many chiefs and not enough indians as they say.....

I have been working at International Game Technology full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

IGT used to be one of the best places to work in Reno. Great benefits, strong sense of community, lots of opportunity. Upper management lived in Reno and cared about their employees.

    Cons

IGT's BOD - were hijacked by Patti Hart and the decline began. Everything has changed. She systematically removed the old guard, and replaced them with her Silicon Valley high tech cronies. She has torn out the heart of IGT and now is selling the remaining organs to the highest bidder. IGT has now been sold to GTech with a tidy little profit to Patti and friends. I have heard that GTech is a Italian family run company - hopefully they can rescusitate the company and infuse it with some heart.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To GTech - clean house of upper management - they are all just hired guns and have no loyalty to the company. Do your research and look at the history of the company before the Patti Hart reign and try and recapture the energy that used to be IGT. There are a lot of loyal employees that would love to work for the company that cared about their employees and the communities that they lived in.

I have been working at International Game Technology full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

After almost 20 years, it is a paycheck.

    Cons

A harsh atmosphere of back stabbing and finger pointing. Employees were told to be stellar employees so they would not get on the layoff lists and in turn, created so much back stabbing and finger pointing that everyone is afraid to sneeze. Shameful....a company that has a manager for less than 20 people in a department of which two are supervisors. Really? A supervisor can only handle 5-7 people and still collect the big bucks....amazing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you preach open door policy....then have an open door policy. Not a, I don't really have time to talk to you because your concerns are not important to me. Shame on those of you who turn your backs on the non management employees.

    Pros

Pay is OK. If you like working long hours for mediocre pay and no job security, this is a good place to work.

    Cons

No job security. Since 2008, MANY of my friends from the company have been laid off.

    Pros

Good benefits and flexible schedules for work life balance.

    Cons

Backbiting culture from legacy of too many lay offs. Very little sharing of information - 'knowledge is power' attitude. Team playing mentality the worse I have ever experienced.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reshuffle the cards and hit a complete 'refresh' on the reporting structures and culture

    Pros

Great co workers, and a solid group of professionals focused on doing a good job. Generally a good work life balance, and most line managers understand the push / pull of daily life.

    Cons

Many of the best employees have left for greener pastures. Upper Management is horribly out of touch with little reward for going above and beyond. Creating an environment of just getting by.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to focus on your talent and retain up and comers not just the seasoned has beens
