    Pros

Benefits are great and environment is easy going. They just re-insourced networking so it will be a while before they try that again due to tons of problems. Standard 2-3 percent yearly bump.

    Cons

Lack of career ladder in WEA/Windows Group. Upper PL levels are limited to a few and those people wont be going anywhere soon. Standard 2-3 percent yearly bump.

    Advice to Management

    Create some upper positions

    Pros

Company has a lot of good benefits and opportunity for growth as an employee.

    Cons

Working at the paper mills is still old school and if you are from the city you might not fit in will the people. Make sure you keep you personal business to yourself.

    Advice to Management

Don't participate in rumors set the example this applies to Team Leaders on first shift.

    Pros

IP is a large corporation so there are almost limitless resources available if you know where and how to ask. The IP pay scale is commensurate with other similar companies. There are some great people working at IP.

    Cons

Though the pay scale is commensurate with other companies, getting a promotion is usually very difficult. Like a lot of large companies where employees make good salaries, there is a lot of jealousy and envy amongst the employees about what each other is making. Who tells them? Instead of looking for very talented help and rewarding them for a job well done, they reward mediocrity with their sliding, bell curve based salary determination scale. If an employee has been doing excellent work for numerous years, they may get an increase in salary of up to 5%. (though it is usually between 0 & 1%, like .47% for example.) On the other hand, if an employee has been borderline at performing their job for most of their career, and they suddenly do their job, they get rewarded with the maximum 5% increase in salary! Where is the incentive for the high performers to keep producing? It's the proverbial story of the horse pulling the cart and the one tied to the back of the cart. The horse pulling the cart gets whipped if they suddenly let up, but the one following behind the cart doing nothing to help pull the cart, just keeps getting fed, watered and groomed!

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the ridiculous Merit pay scale! Start recognizing and rewarding the employees who are actually performing for you. Look in the trenches at the employees who steadily work day to day with no mistakes, no re-work, no problems and reward them. Look at the employees who you never have to say anything to about getting their work done and done right, instead of the squeaky wheel that always has problems but gets rewarded when they suddenly do a little! Promote your talent! Delegate and let your employees perform, and then reward them for their work! In the end, you will have more loyal and dedicated employees who will work to make you look better! They will be more cohesive and will not mind going the extra mile to perform a task or job better!

I have been working at International Paper full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

It is a large company with many opportunities both domestically and worldwide. If you like to travel there are many jobs that require travel

    Cons

It is so large that you can become just another number. You really have to network and get to know many people to move around. Also, internal talent develop is needed, as not all managers know how to develop their people.

    Advice to Management

Overall it is good, but continue to improve. Do not get content and continue to work on developing the talent that is already in the company.

I worked at International Paper as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

IP has a great work culture. A lot of opportunities to get hands on experience or work at a desk, your choice. Good pay for an intern.

    Cons

Not enough work for an intern. I felt like a kid that they didn't trust with a lot of responsibility, but they never gave me a chance to grow.

    Advice to Management

Instead of leaving coops/interns in their offices, have them shadow engineers more frequently. Give them more opportunities to show themselves.

  9. Good company, but opportunities depend on location..

I worked at International Paper full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great pay, no micro managing, great for self starters, little variation in the job duties, great team environment. Shift work if you're into it, allows for only working 15 days out of the month.

    Cons

little variation of job duties, shift work is not for every one, repetitive motion and processes of production can be dull.
