  1. Very Educational Experience

    I worked at Internet Marketing

    Pros

Learned a lot of valuable information about digital marketing in general. Team members were very welcoming, personable, helpful and informative.

    Cons

Not a lot of feedback on quality of work. Not as much collaborative work as I anticipated.

  2. Lack of Leadership

    Pros

Inspiring team members/peers to work with. Wasn't a hard job. Learned a lot.

    Cons

No inspiring leadership. And what members they did have, they end up leaving because they see what the rest of us see: Empty promises. They are detached from the day-to-day.

Also, they oversell clients on potential goals. And they undersell the agency's time. Which means we worked hard with no upside.

And there were too many changes to the culture in the last six months there. Not good changes.

    Advice to Management

Don't let the solid people you have in senior management leave. You have too many people in high positions who did absolutely nothing for us. Honor your promises. Get rid of your dead weight.

  3. Great people, not great management (and processes)

    Pros

-Relaxed environment (sort of now, now it's stricter I've heard)
-People are awesome, everyone is super easy to work with
-Great place to learn, especially for those trying to break into the industry

    Cons

-Lack of processes for things that matter (like employee career pathing, salary growth, and overall happiness)
-Strict regulations over time tracking makes it more difficult to do your job (for example, we weren't allowed to do research in our department since it's not billable, which is a huge part of the job)
-Empty promises over raises, several people have been promoted to senior positions without a salary increase despite more work and responsibilities
-Higher ups tend to take credit for employee work. There have been many cases where the delivery team did an awesome job and created excellent work, only to have another person take credit it for at an industry level.
-Delivery team is used to sell clients on upsells, but the only the account team receives any commission
-Lots of social politics in management
-Lack of innovation or opportunities to do the work better, more of a churn and burn and profit ideology

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to your employees if you want any talent retention. Don't squander the opportunity to be a great company by creating illogical standards for time tracking and work limitations.

    Pros

Everyone there is friendly and welcoming. They're all willing to help you learn and teach you tricks of the trade if you're an intern. If you're not, everyone is a team player, so you'll get lots of feedback and help still. You get a lot out of this place, in terms of education and friends.

    Cons

There was not much structure to the internship when I entered, so there was little opportunity for hire or upward movement once you reached a certain level of proficiency. There are few explicit expectations, so it's difficult for people who aren't go-getters.

    Advice to Management

Have a more robust training/internship program. The more structure you give your interns, the more you will both get out of the experience.

    Pros

I love the people, my direct managers and directors, the company culture

    Cons

Minimal career path. They promise ambitious individuals a lot and don't deliver. Work here for one year and get paid double anywhere else. Very very low pay at imi. Ceo is a sourpuss who doesn't know the names of his 60 employees. Pathetic.

    Pros

Great learning experience as an intern, got to work with their clients, excellent team and culture!

    Cons

Internship was unpaid, not a lot of ability to transition to a full-time position because of smaller department.

    Pros

    -lots of career advancement opportunities
    -lots of access to resources
    -financially stable company
    -great clients
    -wonderful training

    Cons

    -work life balance is non-existent
-department leads often change things up just to have something to do when it's very unnecessary
-most of your time will be spent in meetings, but then you'll be chastised for spending too much time on "Internal projects" and not enough client time.

    Advice to Management

Stop with all the meetings, and stop with all the changing account managers in the SEO department. Clients drop off every time someone changes, and it doesn't create an image of stability for them.
