Very nice company

IT Support Analyst (Former Employee)
Dallas, TX

I worked at Interstate Batteries full-time for more than a year

ProsThe company had great structure and beliefs

ConsNot all departments believed in the EEO status, training available to only certain people

Advice to Senior ManagementFamiliarize itself with all departments, the people in control of those departments and how 'all' employees were treated.

I worked at Interstate Batteries as a contractor for less than a year

ProsFriendly relaxed environment. Benefit package is not bad compare to many other companies. Bonus system.

ConsOpportunities in Quality Control position are limited. The pay is just ok.

Advice to Senior ManagementToo many management changes in a short time.

The Ship is Sinking

All Battery Employee (Current Employee)
Dallas, TX

I have been working at Interstate Batteries full-time for more than 3 years

Pros- Concept of Purpose and Values (in writing - not acted on).
- Entrepreneurial nature of the company/ground-up innovation.

Cons- Do not live up to their lofty values AT ALL - it is rare to see someone who does.
- Supporting departments (accounting, payroll, and marketing) will be rude to you, talk down to you, and generally treat you like dirt.
- Leadership in certain divisions are lost. The VP is unaware of certain directors taking too much control and then not following through on anything.
- Good luck getting a phone call returned or even answered.

Advice to Senior ManagementClean house - there are too many people in corporate who ruin the reputation of this once great company and who are currently driving it into the ground . The culture is non-existent in practice even though many resources were used to put a values system in place. This is evident from leadership in certain areas who bully employees into submission with a "my way or the highway" attitude. I used to work for a great company. Now I work for a company that allows others to treat its employees like dirt.

Very Stressful

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Dallas, TX

I worked at Interstate Batteries full-time for more than 3 years

ProsFellow workers are hard working people trying to do a good job.

ConsNepotism at it's finest. One should keep any negative thoughts to themselves as you never are quiet sure who in management is related to who. Manager and V.P. have zero customer service skills and are in it for themselves at anyone's expense.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to be more considerate of your employees and try to build a team effort instead of what have you done for ME lately attitude.

Interstate Batteries is a great company to work for!

Manager In IT (Former Employee)
Dallas, TX

I worked at Interstate Batteries full-time for more than a year

ProsExcellent work-life balance is the main thing. The company is evolving technologically so there's good challenging work to be done.

ConsThe downfall is they are slow to move on technological advancement from an IT perspective and there is a serious lack of enterprise architecture planning as they try to evolve antiquated technical solutions. Business growth opportunities are questionable so investment in new technologies are also questionable.

Going down hill

IT Engineer (Former Employee)
Dallas, TX

I worked at Interstate Batteries full-time for more than 3 years

ProsIn general most of the people are friendly.

ConsOver worked and underpaid, they believe in doing more with less and as a result one person has to wear many hats. They pay below what the market pays and they will let you know it. They will let their top talent leave without trying to keep them and as a result people start there get the experience and then leave for another company that pays them what they are worth. There is NO work/life balance NONE!

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to keep your top talent, pay what the market is paying and don't let them just walk out the door.

Work there at your own risk

Would Rather Not Say- Don't Need the Hassle (Current Employee)
Dallas, TX

I have been working at Interstate Batteries full-time for more than 10 years

ProsGood benefits, Covered parking, Employee Appreciation Day, Family Day, Christmas Bonus, Profit Sharing

ConsHave seen them fire people for no cause- apparently just b/c they upset someone which makes a stressful atmosphere where everyone is afraid of saying anything. They will ask you for input, but really don't want it- ever! Yearly raises are a shopping 3% if you really bust it. If you know someone there and are on their good side or related, you have it made- nothing you do will get you fired or in trouble- makes morale terrible.

Advice to Senior ManagementWhat if you all managed by communicating instead of intimidation- try it and see.... open your eyes and don't believe everything your VPs tell you. You all aren't the only game in town....just sayin"
