I worked at Interstate Batteries part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

People there are fun to work with. Very family oriented (If you know someone who works there you have a better chance of a job there). More likely to hire younger workers either just out of high school or currently in college.

    Cons

Depending on location can be boring. Prefers to hire younger workers. Can be physically demanding at times (Batteries are heavy!). More likely to hire younger workers either just out of high school or currently in college.

I worked at Interstate Batteries full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Relaxed dress code; talent not deep so you have to opportunity to stand out; fun company events; financially stable

    Cons

Internal politics more prevalent than ever; high performance not as valued as fitting in; legacy leadership and many in leadership roles that do not have career experience in those disciplines

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to put more of a premium on high performance versus politics of fitting in; servant leadership is not just a term...serving is performance managing the team to reach their best. Put some leaders in place that have career experience in those disciplines, not just those in political favor. And, keep up the team building and fun events, they're well received and morale boosters.

I worked at Interstate Batteries full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The company had great structure and beliefs

    Cons

Not all departments believed in the EEO status, training available to only certain people

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Familiarize itself with all departments, the people in control of those departments and how 'all' employees were treated.

    Cons

Opportunities in Quality Control position are limited. The pay is just ok.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Interstate Batteries full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Concept of Purpose and Values (in writing - not acted on).
    - Entrepreneurial nature of the company/ground-up innovation.

    Cons

    - Do not live up to their lofty values AT ALL - it is rare to see someone who does.
    - Supporting departments (accounting, payroll, and marketing) will be rude to you, talk down to you, and generally treat you like dirt.
    - Leadership in certain divisions are lost. The VP is unaware of certain directors taking too much control and then not following through on anything.
    - Good luck getting a phone call returned or even answered.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean house - there are too many people in corporate who ruin the reputation of this once great company and who are currently driving it into the ground . The culture is non-existent in practice even though many resources were used to put a values system in place. This is evident from leadership in certain areas who bully employees into submission with a "my way or the highway" attitude. I used to work for a great company. Now I work for a company that allows others to treat its employees like dirt.

I worked at Interstate Batteries full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Fellow workers are hard working people trying to do a good job.

    Cons

Nepotism at it's finest. One should keep any negative thoughts to themselves as you never are quiet sure who in management is related to who. Manager and V.P. have zero customer service skills and are in it for themselves at anyone's expense.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to be more considerate of your employees and try to build a team effort instead of what have you done for ME lately attitude.

I have been working at Interstate Batteries full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Top battery company in America so the clientele is already there. Product sells itself. They do promote from within

    Cons

Worked 40+ hours a week but only would be paid for 40. Dishonest. Multiple Store Managers within short period of time. Different guidelines for franchises and corporate stores which would be very confusing. Managers picking favorites telling certain employees about drug tests.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop having people take "made in china" stickers off of products.
