This Nationally-Recognized Testing Laboratory is a high pressure place to learn fast and work hard.

    Engineer (Current Employee)

ProsYou will learn testing methods, analytical thinking, and the hustle to succeed in a testing lab. You will learn a variety of equipment within your test specialty. Other test labs value employees of this company.

ConsFrequent turnover prevents group cohesion. Pressure is high. Salary increases are not strongly connected to performance. Improvisation of test setups is likely.

Advice to Senior ManagementA stable command structure, stable team structure, and regimented training of new hires, would promote team spirit and overall team skill.

Feels like you work for a small company, but Intertek is huge. Lots of hands on learning.

    Business Development Manager (Current Employee)

ProsLots of learning, various characters, diverse locations

ConsNot glamorous, offices often in awful areas of the cities or countries they operate, people are hit or miss... some "go getters" and "rainmakers", others just here for the job.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet better at recognizing talent, and upward mobility.

ProsGood vacation benefits, Good health benefits

ConsCompany is making money hands over fist. Cut back on a lot of perks. My work load more than doubled, I was promised another worker never happened. I walked

Great company to work for with an incredible outlook and growth opportunities!

    Project Engineer (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsCompany is quickly acquiring small to medium businesses which makes for a challenging environment, full of opportunities. Good ideas are always heard by management. Usually work on multiple projects at a time, thus keeping things interesting. Accomplishments reflect pay. Great work environment, co-workers are fun and motivated.

ConsNot the type of place for someone without initiative. Training philosophy is more 'on-the-job learning' rather than formal classroom.

Advice to Senior ManagementImplement more programs to promote interaction between Intertek branches.

    Moving towards professionalism

    Chemist (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsThis company is a great place to start out and get experience. Many in management positions do not have college degrees and have moved up quickly from starting positions. The company has been growing quickly by purchasing many small to medium sized businesses. The ranks are filling with competent, experienced people and the company has more professional management these days. The laboratories are getting more advanced equipment that can add to experience and resumes.

ConsThe company tends to hire people with little experience and pay low wages. There is very little specialized training offered by the company or through external training programs. The primary training method is on-the-job training. Very little employee development and no management training which is sorely needed. Highly experienced employees are not as valued and not compensated as well as in other companies.

Advice to Senior Managementrecruit more highly experienced employees who can give your customers better and more reliable service and compensate these employees at a competitive rate.

Good company with opportunity if you can get with the right leadership.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsI like the company as it is very diverse. There is opportunity for professional growth if the right resources, training and leadership is provided to you.

ConsThere is lack of communication within the company, divisions, teams and functions. There should be one consistent message across the board in regards to processes and procedures. More in-depth training should be provided to new employees and not just computer based on-board training.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to improve on communication.
