I have been working at Intuit full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Intuit is famously "nice". The people are just so nice, darn it. And they are very respectful of each other. For example, you will rarely hear of a manager berating or demeaning a subordinate. Such a manager would be gone in a heartbeat. Also, the benefits are outstanding. Intuit takes great care of its employees.

    Cons

Changing anything at Intuit, anything at all, is an ordeal. You have to convince and align a dozen people to make the smallest change. This is because Intuit is a consensus culture. If you join, you had better plan to spend the first couple of years building an extensive network of personal relationships across Intuit, because you'll need them to get anything, and I mean anything, accomplished.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The middle tier of managers is, well, not terribly effective, primarily because of lack of managerial training. Basic management competencies and practices like 1-1s, giving timely and detailed feedback to employees, business planning, etc. etc. are incredibly non-uniform across Intuit. It would do a world of good for the company if managers were given consistent training and then held to uniform standards across the company. And I don't mean the feel-good leadership trainings that I've attended where we end by meditating and visualizing (seriously). I mean training on the nitty-gritty of being a disciplined manager.
