I have been working at Investors Group full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

I have some job security. I have worked my way up to a senior position

    Cons

Employee recognition could be better. There is top heavy management and not enough workers to do some of the client service jobs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cut some of the fat off the top and hire more workers ..

I have been working at Investors Group full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great training and development, the company is also good at looking inward to see how it can become better and more competitive in the market place.

Unlimited income, run my own schedule.

The products are always being reviewed and improved, as is performance. The company also has a great high net worth program with tax deductible fees.

    Cons

You are effectively running your own business, which can be challenging for some people who prefer a salary as your income is variable. The company makes no secret of this though. I've seen a lot of people fail and also complain, but the reason they fail, is that they are not prepared to do what it takes to build a business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reduce the product line and keep working on reducing MER's

I have been working at Investors Group full-time for less than a year

    Pros

I would say the ability to grow your own income at your pace and be able to work as though you are self employed. No one competes for each other's clients but helps others in order to grow the organization. For tax purpose each employee is 'self employed'. There is a list of mentorship available to support junior employees and marketing tools that would help you promote to your clients. It is not called a sales role but it is pretty much what you will engage in! You have to be driven to be in this industry. If it not for you, don't force it! Find an environment in the workplace where you will thrive in.

    Cons

Challenging starting as a consultant as you are encouraged to sell services to your close network

I have been working at Investors Group full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    -Great Training
    -Large potential for growth
-Best Financial Planning company in the country, no bank or other institution does any comparable planning. After working here, taking a position at a bank wouldn't be possible. You would see to clearly the poor job they really do!

    Cons

-100% commission (gets very tough sometimes)
    - very little support after your done your second year
    - takes a huge amount of work in order to build up a steady income

A good training ground but be prepared: you are running your own business and income may be very inconsistent.

I worked at Investors Group for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Good training ground.
Unlimited potential - but about 85-90% of new consultants leave after the first year.

    Cons

You need to be comfortable in picking up the phone and talking to people... sales mentality.
Income can be very inconsistent and low the first 5 years.
Don't expect your friends and family to move all of their business to you... and do you want that anyway?

I worked at Investors Group as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

You're running your own company essentially and you are in control of the outcomes. The secretaries are nice to you and the workplace is visually appealing.

    Cons

100% commission, no support system. It's just a sales job, such as being a car salesman. You work very hard and yield low returns. As an intern they will not pay you and you're expected to review investment books.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train people properly before signing them on, and create a good support system.

I have been working at Investors Group full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

They have a great new compensation package for new consultants. Well worth looking into it. The support is exceptional. Think long term and don't look back.

    Cons

Be prepared to work hard and learn everyday . You don't have success sitting around waiting for it to happen. You need to listen to what they tell you. They have a system that works. FOllow it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do what your tell them you are going to do.

    Pros

    Pay for courses.your own boss

    Cons

They only pay a base for 3 months. Their products have a very high MER compared to alternative investments. Success rate low which is why they have to hound you to join them. Yout better off working in a bank more stable more opportunity

A meaningful experience which helped prepare me for a future in financial services.

    I worked at Investors Group

    Pros

The training program is top notch; not to mention they help get you licensed as a sales agent for mutual funds and life insurance.

    Cons

You have to manage your own book of business; that means your salary is based on the amount of sales you have. It's a tough business and you have to be able to deal with sticky situations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work and stay positive!
