    Pros

Lots of opportunities to learn and build. Work with different clients from large diagnostics multi-nationals to start-up organizations.

    Cons

Time differences with Australia require good time management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Colin White is doing a great job as the President.

I worked at Invetech full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Variety of projects and challenges; good group of people; small office environment; reasonable pay

    Cons

Indecisive leadership; babysitting style of program and team management; new business direction every year; big gaps between projects; matrix organisation BS, etc. All these leads to a very stressful working environment that lacks the organisational structure, vision, continuity of career progress, professional development and (to say the least) trust in leadership. The Big Guy is just on his way to a corporate position and does not care about anything but numbers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I do not believe there is anything that will change it. For as long as they could get a client to pay their bills, this company will stick with the method regardless of how much good people they lost.

    Pros

    Strong technical engineering
    Strong project management
    Creative industrial design
    Experience with multiple access instrumentation

    Cons

Small piece of a large corporation pressure to contribute to bottom line.
    Internal power struggles.
Lack of commitment toward direction from the top.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Since you are a service provider you cannot act like a Danaher Company selling widgets. Keep to the innovation and continue to surpass client expectations.

I have been working at Invetech full-time

    Pros

    - Possibly the most friendly and tightly knit group of people to work with.
    - Variety of projects is good, and since the team is small here you can get exposure to all of them.
    - The President is enacting a great deal of very positive change and morale has been better than ever.

    Cons

    - Speed and efficiency take a big hit due to reliance on Australian mothership.
    - Promotions are rare and raises are average to below average.
    - Management very hesitant to invest in technological infrastructure and would rather pass that on to the client on a per project basis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Be more proactive on hiring talent for projects. Running a skeleton crew constantly is burning us all out and leading to looking for opportunities elsewhere.

I have been working at Invetech full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Since Colin White became president at Invetech there has been a cultural shift in the leadership. The San Diego office is a great place to work and the colleagues here are all high class technically and personally.

The recent growth initiative has helped the San Diego office reach the critical size to attract big exciting projects and everyone is busy and focused. If you like working for a company where there is no room for dead wood then Invetech will be a good fit for you.

The introduction of the Danaher Business System is getting serious attention and commitment from the leadership team and really has a lot to offer to anyone who believes in continuous improvement and turning problems into opportunities.

    Cons

The travel commitment can be quite high depending on your position. If you are collaborating with colleagues in Melbourne you will need to be flexible in your work hours, but the company supports this in a variety of ways.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep discussing the current strategic direction with colleagues at all levels to ensure alignment and transparency.

I have been working at Invetech

    Pros

The working environment is great. Everybody in the office gets along very well. There is a fair amount of variety in the projects.

    Cons

While there is variety in the projects, the San Diego office gets fed the scraps. There have been numerous "shared" projects in which the SD site has mainly served as a document processing site or has taken on very minor technical roles. This is due to both the lack of growth in SD and Australia's reluctance to hand over the reins.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Understand that the "shared" projects are incredibly inefficient, both time and cost-wise. There is little to no desire for the PMs in Australia to improve this issue.

I have been working at Invetech full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great variety of projects - medical, industrial, commercial
Really smart, interesting people - mech, elec and software
Can be technical or sales - client facing or not
Large and small projects, travel opportunities - asia, europe, USA, etc

    Cons

    Can be long hours.
Danaher own the company now - job security not as good as it used to be.
Perception that client-facing roles have better career opportunities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to work harder to retain talent - keep losing good people. Better pay, faster promotions!
Should consider time-in-lieu or overtime - unofficial policy is often unfair.

    Pros

Really technically challenging projects with amazingly knowledgeable people to turn to for help. Main R&D site is in Australia, so opportunities for travel and transfers.

    Cons

Working with projects in countries all around the world can be on teleconferences at all times.

    Cons

Luck of leadership on all levels of company infrastructure.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We are running business with 10 years old model, which is based on questionable success stories. It is time to get humble and lower cost of doing business with us.

    I worked at Invetech

    Pros

At one time was fun, invigorating. Extremely talented bright people who believed in having fun at work makes you more productive.

    Cons

CEO brought company down the past few years and Danaher has finished it off. People running for the doors if not getting pushed out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Premium prices can't be charged in an economically-challenged period like we are in now. Competitive disadvantage of being based in Australia needs to be overcome by more support of U.S. office.
