    Pros

The stock. Good for everyone at the top.

    Cons

Just ask the employee turnover rate. Ask the number of women and minorities in senior executive roles and on the Board. Ask the percentage of employees over 50 years old. Ask what they really value as part of their culture. You won't have a formal number of vacation days at Director and above so that when you leave, they don't have to pay for any unused.

    Advice to Management

Change the little man at the top.

    Pros

Exciting field, challanging work, smart, hardworking, diverse group of people. Encourages and provides incentives for a healthy lifestyle.

    Cons

Work/life balance very poor, pace of work is not sustainable. Management gives lip service but does not walk the talk. Benefits have gone down quite a bit. Too many conflicting priorities creates an overworked workforce which results in mistakes and reworks.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the feedback provided by the employees and try to improve those scores.

    Pros

Possible career advancement is available and internal job postings are readily noted on internal job bulletins, benefits are above average.

    Cons

Career advancement would require relocation to another city/state , pay scale is significantly lower than comperable pay in the area

    Advice to Management

Management seems to not allow flow of information to reach its non-managerial staff, too many social events to try to compensate for the lack of satisfaction of the emplyees at this site which is not what this site needs.

    Pros

Great for entry level work, work was manageable; employee to manager was a good ratio; individual work space; uniform job descriptions

    Cons

felt like a factory at times; company was too young, not much professionalism; though work was manageable, felt like you could never catch up; area companies had better pay

    Advice to Management

introduce more leadership and career development opportunities; pay more; too much upper management levels; bring the human side to the job and hiring of management, don't just make everything black belt.

    Pros

    Industry leader, extensive customer base
    Headquarters in a great location
Very profitable, even during this serious recession
    Dedicated employees

    Cons

Stock options only available to director-level positions and above
Lots of uncertainties and confusion from acquisition of Applied Biosystems still being sorted out
Some decisions on procedures, new initiatives, etc., seem to be made in isolation without any input from the front-line staff who'll have to actually implement them, so those initiatives tend not to be completely thought-through.
Some surprisingly inexperienced people are put into positions of considerable decision-making authority.

    Advice to Management

Involve front-line staff in the planning of projects/initiatives; don't just spring things on them saying "Here, this is how you're going to do X from now on".
More accurately benchmark the total compensation program against similar companies (benefits, included); make stock options available to all employees, not just senior management.

    Pros

Profitable company that does a lot of things well.

    Cons

Culture feels like a factory with a few bones thrown to employees every now an then. No natural sunlight in most of the buildings. Not a lot of diversity in senior management. Arrogance of management is biggest issue ans the fact the company has had over 20 acquisitions. That tells you they are use to high turn-over. Young employees keep the salary level low.

    Advice to Management

Reduce the buy and cut model and make the list of admired employers. Really share the wealth. Be humble. Practice your values. Real diversity at Executive and BOD levels.
