    Pros

Irwin Home Equity is a part of the Irwin Financial Corporation. Irwin has a long tradition of integrity and value. As such Irwin Home Equity subscribes to the same guiding philosophy of fundamentals values and management approach.

    Cons

Irwin Home Equity is in the mortgage industry and is subject the ebb and flow of interest rates and housing values. Irwin Home Equity has traditionally been a niche lender in the 2nd Mortgage space. With that market largely dried up moving into 1st Mortgages is a challenge.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Making and living by tough choices is a given. The Senior Management team at Irwin Home Equity has exemplified Irwin's Guiding Philosophy and that character is valuable.

    Pros

Senior Management was very open to hearing concerns from employees. It helps to make the workplace worker friendly.

    Cons

Middle management left something to be desired. Advancement was not easy and hard work was not always recognized. Career advancement most likely slowed due to the market conditions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more aware of the hard work of your people and be more willing to recognize this hard work!

Great if it weren't for some incompetent managers and their entourages

    Pros

The more visible you are at kissing up, the more likely you will be rewarded.

    Cons

If you don't kiss up and make yourself visible to everyone, then you won't be rewarded
Power struggle between upper management put too much emphasis on who is in control instead of what is good for the company.
Most of the time you don't know who is calling the shot.
Lots of questionable decisions that were borderline illegal business practices.
Lots of incompetent people, especially middle management.
Reviews are made by people who have no clues on what you are doing.
    Salary sucks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Practice what you preached. Some of your managers are not using your Guiding Philosophy. Their hiring and award of contracts are questionable.
Why are there managements running amok and doing whatever they want? How in the hell can they justified the money they are spending?
Reward people for what they can do instead of fixing the mess they created in the first place.
Reward people for what they can do instead of for how popular they are.
Nepotism in its many forms is frown upon for a reason.
Spend the money to train your own people instead of training contractors.
Use peer reviews instead management review

    Pros

The company is being bought out so the culture has totally changed. Most people are gone or going. It was a good place to be, the people were great overall. Salary left some to be desired, increases have been a joke, benefits were what should be expected. Senior management was approachable and generally easy to talk to. There were some politics within some groups, if you weren't in the right crowd you could easily go unnoticed even if you were stellar. I never saw much negative volatile arguing aside from a couple instances but this was far from the norm.
