Provides good social benefits, competitive salary and bonuses, but bank culture is bureaucratic and not agile.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Istanbul (Turkey)

ProsEsteemed feeling of working in the biggest commercial bank of Turkey, selective and competitive recruitment process, placement based on former background, no outside transfer of experienced professionals, opportunity to move up the ladder in a relatively less competitive work environment, significant rich benefits based on seniority and promotions

ConsCorporate culture is rigid and standing out from the crowd is not favored by the management no matter how competent an employee can be. Semi-annual performance appraisals take into account some other factors besides previous work performance such as one's family status, need of money, previous bonuses etc. which might be discouraging for hard-working and competent employees. Long lapses to earn seniority or promotions increase the risk of losing talented employees and create complaceny for the current workforce.

Advice to Senior ManagementIn my opinion, there is a distinct difference in the way banking branch and HQ employees put effort in their work as banking branch employees feel more pressure to develop themselves in order to get a promotion. HQ employees become complacent after spending a couple of years and reduce their efforts to work for promotion due to the destined career path ahead of them. Once an assistant auditor or an assistant specialist is promoted to senior level, some of them value earning their annual bonuses and dividends in time more than increasing their efforts to earn latter job promotions. This pervading habit poses danger for the future competitiveness of the bank and adversely affect the motivation of the subordinates who take their superiors as role models. To forestall this habit among the entry-level managers, the performance appraisal system of the management can be revised to assess senior employees and new managers on a more rigorous target scale.
