    Managerial trisomy 21

Research Associate (Current Employee) Carlsbad, CA

ProsGreat place to start a career out of college and leave after 2 years. If you are not promoted after 2 years your career at ISIS has reached its max and is already in the coffin. Great place to add "director" to your title if you have a BS degree with experience. Great place to come in late, work out in the afternoon and leave early to go surfing.

ConsManagement is more concerned about perception rather than science, which is most noticeable during performance reviews. You are more likely to be given a promotion by having candy at your desk and talking about how bad the Padres are than performing meaningful science. Most ISIS management has been promoted from within for so long that they are no longer innovative and are hostile to new ideas because it creates more work for them. In order to stay relevant, ISIS management is bullying out experienced scientists and replacing them with recent college graduates.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart implementing the ISIS core principles to your own careers and invest in furthering your education. Most of your employees are not impressed by your knowledge gained through decades at ISIS. Think through your decisions rather than impulsively making a decision without listening to the facts. Most employees are tired of being scientific janitors and cleaning up the unnecessary mess caused by your poor decisions. Stop scrapping capital equipment to fund a booze-fest at the local British pub. Get rid of the managers that look at porn all day, they shake the hands of ISIS partners! Get rid of the managers that are clearly on drugs, employees are tired of planning their days around managers highs and lows.

Only focus on senior level employees

Research Associate (Former Employee) Carlsbad, CA

ProsNice and talented people to work with.

ConsToo many vp in the company. The levels are kind of deceptive as many of these vp are not as high up as they seems if they go to a different company.

Advice to Senior ManagementBig bonus only go to executive level employees. Lower level scientists / RA feel that no matter how hard they work, their efforts are not recognized.

Isis values creativity - as long as it fits in the box

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Carlsbad, CA

ProsNice new building in Carlsbad. Above average compensation.

ConsBusiness Development, Finance, and IT have a long history of high turnover and low morale. Isis is a small company, so there's little opportunity for learning new things. Isis values style over substance, so incompetent employees have a legitimate shot at success as long as they schmooze properly. If you're not politically savvy, you'll hit the ceiling quickly or be fired outright.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook in the mirror and you'll find the reason for many of your problems.
Advice to BOD: it's time to refresh some VP talent.
