Pros
It's fairly easy to make a good overall hourly wage with tips.
Easy to change and customize your schedule, another server is usually willing to trade shifts.
Cons
Nowhere to go unless you want to work 50-60hrs per week at $12 bucks and hour.
Slow to recognize the good, quick to criticize.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay closer attention to who's being put into management. Some are very good employees and leaders, and some are just complete characters that shouldn't be in a leadership role.
Pros
The dining room is far from the kitchen so you get a lot of exercise as a server. I am not being facetious, I actually appreciated that aspect of the whole work experience. Also, I hope that you guys still have the discount for Bass Pro Shop. That was always nice come Christmas time.
Cons
Islamorada Fish Company in Ft. Myers is either way too busy or not busy enough. In the summer nobody is around and I either had to go home or ended up having two tables the entire night. During winter it is so busy and is very hard to take off time for the holidays but, since so many servers are put on the schedule, you don't get many tables. You still end up very stressed and busy because you have to make up for other people's slack.
The dining room is not conveniently constructed. The kitchen is at the far right end and the tables are all to the left and line a thin "hallway" (which is difficult to maneuver around when you have trays). You are constantly behind if you have tables in the back dining room. Upside is you get A LOT of exercise.
Advice to Senior Management
My only advice is please be more available to servers. Very often, when servers would need a comp or help from a manager, he or she was nowhere to be found. Often, the manager would be hiding in the office with the door locked. It decreases tips and makes customers angry when they have to wait.
Pros
Great restaurant hours with no real late nights
Cons
You are a labor saver and not a manager.
Advice to Senior Management
Live up to the same expectations you set for your managers
Pros
Beautiful restaurant, lots of potential, discount in Bass Pro Shops, early closes. Lots of great people working inside Bass Pro.
Cons
No advertising. It's easier to run a profitable and efficient restaurant when you have business coming in the door. Progressive discipline. It's tough to hold people accountable when you have to go through HR to do a write-up.
Advice to Senior Management
Advertise. Sales building should be your #1 priority.
