    I worked at Ithaca College

    Pros

Working here has been the best. I love the people and the students there. If you work hard, your time will pay off.

    Cons

The weather is brutal but if that doesn't bother you, than you are fine.
    A lot of hills!

I have been working at Ithaca College part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

I got to hang out with my favorite professor.
I was able to pay my utilities bill at the end of the month
Sometimes I blew my earnings on Wegmans peanut butter (that stuff is the greatest)

    Cons

Early morning class made for early work hours
The pay is terrible, and no overtime
The time sheet system, really, the worst.

    I worked at Ithaca College

    Pros

I enjoyed working as a teaching assistant. If you want to do this, it has to be for your love of the subject, not for the pay. It was enjoyable to teach people. I lead drill sessions for a foreign language and enjoyed watching the intro students grow. You get paid for 3 hours but you rarely spend that much time preparing.

    Cons

Little hours. 3 hours per TA session. Minimum wage, but that is expected with such an easy job.

I worked at Ithaca College full-time

    Pros

There are individuals here who stand out in their mission toward students. They are a delight to work with.

Research requirements for an academic institution of this size are reasonable.

    Investment in professional development.

    Cons

Educating students at this school is challenging. The majority want something easy that they don't have to work for (but they want to feel like they learned something). Current policies do hold students accountable. Teaching felt like a grind.

Average compensation for all faculty may be comparable to sister institutions, but it is well below average for Assistant Professors.

Expectations were often unclear and not communicated until the final review from both students and faculty.

Future policies seem predicated on shrinking student markets, which means accepting students who are less prepared. It also means squeezing more out of faculty with less resources.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Policies about advancement, workflow, expectations need to be spelled out.

There needs to be more consistency in resources and cooperation between departments/schools.

There is a great deal of waste at the school driving up tuition and holding down salaries of employees.

    Support for upholding faculty policies.

I have been working at Ithaca College full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Great culture. Truly refreshing place to be. Fantastic educational opportunities and benefits.

    Cons

Salary is low for industry. Technology initiatives have not kept pace with the times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Support change to keep organization current with industry. However, do this at a healthy pace. Change has been slow or nonexistent in some respects, but it would be inadvisable to rush into things headlong and beyond the ability of the organizations to keep up.

I worked at Ithaca College full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits, specifically paid time off are excellent.

    Cons

Wage compensation is lacking. Upper management is overly compensated, while those at a lower level are often overlooked for increases.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Examine wage compensation and work atmosphere. Employee satisfaction does not appear to be a priority.

I worked at Ithaca College part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good student employment, good networking with professors, lots of opportunities for hands-on experience as a student employee. Enjoyed working with my peers, learning things I couldn't have learned from just being a student, and gaining a wider perspective of the world.

    Cons

Tuition is high for student employees, have heard whispers about how associate/adjunct professors are treated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

For the park school, find a way to stop playing the equipment arms race and invest in teachers.
