Itron is a paycheck, but doesn't provide much more than that.

I have been working at Itron

    Pros

It's a job with a steady income. I have many friends at Itron and I enjoy their company, and they are part of the only reason why I have not yet moved on. Benefits appear to be good but its hard to compare now-a-days.

    Cons

Lack of future growth. Under compensated. They claim that they can't compare with other companies less than 30 miles away. Expectations are generally higher than can be acheived in a year's time and managment usually sets very vague goals and little management to see them through.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to wake up and start sharing the wealth with your entire work staff.

    Pros

International company, amazing coworkers, good pay for Spokane

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Itron full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good work / life balance and the ability to work in different fields. Management is generally very friendly. Salaries are fair.

    Cons

The work can become monotonous, so it's up to the employee to develop a career path and keep things interesting. Mentorship from senior staff is lacking.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Incentive structure for promotions could be better articulated. Management should focus more on promoting employee growth from within.

I worked at Itron full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Upbeat, positive culture. Expect a lot of people but try to take care of them.

    Cons

Too provincial for company trying to be global.
Need to improve strategic decision making processes, at executive and junior executive levels.

I have been working at Itron full-time

    Pros

Decent paycheck, interesting industry, and the people are mostly nice.

    Cons

Politics are extreme, you must be part of the in-crowd to get promoted. Not much of a career path unless you are willing to travel up to 75% of the time. Training is rare. It feels like the company is poised for either a takeover or big layoffs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Tell us what's going on, even when the news isn't great. The gossip throughout Itron is constant and demoralizing.

I have been working at Itron full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The benefits are not bad. Depending on the position you may have a good compensation.

    Cons

Management has no vision. All they know is how to reduce every available benefit from year to year.

I have been working at Itron full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Pleasant work environment, great people, little politics.
Comparatively large number of enthusiastic employees with initiative in lower ranks.
Promotion policies are good up to middle management.

    Cons

Company is currently undergoing crisis for a lack of strategic focus. Trying to "me-too" with competitors instead of assembling talent to tackle Smart Grid proactively.

Senior management is mostly male and white, tired, lacks original thinking, indecisive, depressing for troops. Does not "get" software, Seems more focused on satisfying stock analysts by laying off low-level staff than sticking to a strategy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean out dead wood at HQ. Promote younger, more female managers into senior management, or hire an outsider or two.
