    I worked at Ivar's full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Company is always looking to give benefits that match or beat the present market. Some of the upper management is very attentive and will listen to your ideas and suggestions. Great benefits all around if you sign up for them. Owners are approachable and aren't the corporate big wigs you normally see in a company.

    Cons

They will leave some one in a position that shouldn't be there for convenience sake for too long. It will some times cause good people to leave because they are tired of waiting for some thing to be done about the supervisor not being good at their job.

    Advice to Management

Keep an eye on your managers and district managers. Listen to your lower employees when they tell you some one isn't doing their job well, check it out as sometimes it really is more than some one just "whining". Keep doing what you are doing for benefits. Keep being approachable! Corporate office staff are amazing.

I have been working at Ivar's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There are plenty of hours available and it is a fun, high-paced environment so you won't get bored!

    Cons

One of the locations I worked at had terrible management and were not welcoming to new customers.

    Advice to Management

Make sure to be fair in your actions and do not discriminate against new employees.

    Pros

Great people to work for--I liked all my managers, coworkers, and supporting staff. They are all very nice.

    Cons

VERY low emphasis on cleanliness, which is incredibly problematic for a restaurant. Also, there is no focus on education or bettering oneself; how am I supposed to become a better chef without a supportive educational environment?

    Advice to Management

Replace your general managers at the seafood bars. They are very unsupportive of their staff, and it hurts the quality of the food and service.

    Pros

Ownership takes pride in offering good benefits and fostering a positive work environment for all employees top to bottom of the company.

    Cons

Ownership and senior management work little towards upholding expectations and defining a vision and set of goals for lower level management to use in direction of hourly staff.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

Flexible workplace. Nice, down to earth people.

    Cons

Ownership group lacking a clear leader who provides a sense of shared goals. Very little big picture thinking - each division is allowed to "choose their own adventure" with no direction provided from ownership. Lack of training.

    Advice to Management

Have a Director's Meeting - set some goals and expectations for each division. Provide a sense of shared goals.
