Good experience

Account Manager (Former Employee)

I worked at J.B. Hunt full-time for more than a year

ProsYounger coworkers, independence, experience to use somewhere else in the future

ConsOn-call 24/7. You'll have drivers calling you day and night. The pay is not worth the work put in. Mgmt. never gave a "good job." Your life revolves around catering to the needs of truck drivers so they won't quit on you. If a driver gets in a collision, it's considered the fault of the account mgmt. Basically, when things are going good, you hear nothing. When things are going bad, It's somehow your fault and you hear about it.

Advice to Senior ManagementAs the job market gets better, the only way to keep employees is to pay them a fair wage for the work involved. Either 1) Pay more or 2) find a way to make the job less work (i.e. no on call, set hours of operations, etc...)

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

value employees, not your stock!

Shop Foreman (Former Employee)
Concord, NC

I worked at J.B. Hunt full-time for more than 8 years

ProsDecent pay, lots of work, secure, forward thinking, lots of terminals across the country, some good people, free uniforms, safety is #1

ConsNo incentive to work hard, over work salaried employees due to cutbacks, bad bonus plan for salaried managers, management does not reward for hard work, management does not listen to workers, no good promotion within, could pay more, always "more for less"

Advice to Senior ManagementReward performing employees!

I would never ever tell anyone to work here. Ever.

Financial Analyst (Current Employee)
Lowell, AR

I have been working at J.B. Hunt full-time for more than a year

ProsI honestly can't think of a single good thing about JB Hunt. See notes below.

ConsLack of effective management structure. Failure to properly communicate across teams; more of a silo'd team structure than cross management. Lack of professionalism all the time.

Great people, terrible technology

Programming Specialist (Current Employee)
Lowell, AR

I have been working at J.B. Hunt full-time for more than 5 years

ProsGreat work-life balance, great co-workers

ConsEverything is built on top of a buggy, legacy Mainframe foundation. Even the newer distributed applications are destroyed by this, making them unmaintainable from the beginning. There's lots of talk of "modernization", but based on the current allocation of resources, it doesn't seem like fixing this is a high priority. Lots of big, non-technical companies are like this, but the rhetoric here makes it sound different, as if the expectation is to have high-quality code without dedicating any time to fix major, glaring, decades-old problems.

Not too bad

Regional Driver (Current Employee)
Chicago, IL

I have been working at J.B. Hunt full-time for more than a year

ProsGreat equipment, got freight pretty easy going once you get thru all the bs. Great group of drivers. Brokedown want to go home just tell them they will get you home. Home every weekend with out fail.

ConsShop Sucks week plus to get anything fixed. Chicago can be hell if you do not know what you are doing. Company polices can protect you but more likely to screw you if you dont know what youre doing i.e. youre a retard.
