J.B. Hunt Logistics Engineer:   (Current Employee)

Pros

good work life balance, engineers get to work on cool and interesting projects, good recognition for job well done, great people. It's a great place to start your career and get a lot of experience quickly.

Cons

salary and benefits below market for the role, maybe not for the transportation industry. it's a bit good ole boy company and career progress can be slower than other places

J.B. Hunt Company Driver in Memphis, TN:   (Past Employee - 2009)

Pros

For an entry level driver, they offer some competitive pay packages. They were one of the first companies to offer regional jobs where they get you home every weekend.

Cons

Management is not very helpful. They always want you to do something, but when you ask for a favor the answer is always NO!!!!!!

Advice to Senior Management

Listen to your employees. You are not the one out there dealing with all of the customers. Treat your employees with a little bit more respect.

J.B. Hunt Operations Supervisor in Tracy, CA:   (Past Employee - 2006)

Pros

I worked in the Dedicated Contracts Division which meant that we worked as contractors within our customers distribution centers. There seemed to be a lot of turnover as each office was rather small, so if you were motivated and willing to relocate within a large region, there we lots of opportunities for advancement.

Cons

The small size of the offices and the fact that each one was a semi-autonomous unit that acted as their personal transportation department. In a small office, any conflict is magnified ten fold, and your every action is analyzed by your customers. This makes for a very tense environment.

Advice to Senior Management

Take a stronger interest in the environments formed in each DCS account. Lobby for your own employees if the customer is making unreasonable demands and bring in additional staff rather than expect the office staff to put in 60+ hour weeks
