Pros – At this point in time, I don't see any pros. It WAS a good company at one time.
Cons – Just look at the stock, and the layoffs. A lot of good people are gone.
Advice to Senior Management – If I thought it would make a difference I would share the information. jcp has no interest in my opinion or point of view.

Current Employee – been working at J. C. Penney full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Salary ok--good bennies--good employees--nice place to work for high school or college students--not too nice for older people--expectations too high for pay
Cons – too many hours
not employee friendly
no work /life balance
disgruntled supervisors
Advice to Senior Management – -take care of the people who are on the firing line daily trying to save the Company
-restructuring left a lot of employees high and dry and customers not knowing Penney's sales strategy

Former Employee – worked at J. C. Penney
Pros – I worked at the home office. The culture was great. If they can fix the upper management issue it would be a great place to work.
Cons – Management was terrible. My supervisor was great, but above my supervisor was terrible. Upper management won't take your ideas. They won't listen to you.
Advice to Senior Management – Listen to your employees. Stop trying to do so much more with less. You are over working your employees and burning them out.

Current Employee – been working at J. C. Penney
Pros – Employee discount is 20% for home office employees. 6% co match on 401k, but you only get half of that because they pay it monthly. Men's clothing has upgraded well over the years.
Cons – Products still suck no matter how much marketing spin they put on it. New CEO from Apple has his hands full. They changed the appraisal process and telling us the midpoint has a higher standard. In reality they do that in order to give out less % in raises and bonus.
Advice to Senior Management – Sr Mgmt at JCP is so far from the trenches that they wouldn't know reality if it hit them in the face. Leaders need followers and if you want me to follow you then please inspire me first. Otherwise you're wasting my time. So f/o JCP.

Former Employee – worked at J. C. Penney
Pros – The best reason I found to work at JCP was plenty of PTO given to take, which made my decision an ultimately rewarding one. I am now elsewhere.
Cons – Not promoted after more than a decade of loyal service as hourly. When I applied for a management position again (for the last time), I was told by a Sr. HR manager that I was not promotable/not management material, that my college degree did not count because it was not earned recently (I graduated Magna Cum Laude in the late 90s), and my work experience did not count because it was not already management level. I also have a visble disability, which I believe is important to note here. I was told I should be "grateful."
Advice to Senior Management – I would suggest to make owning your career a truthful statement, otherwise the new initiative from HR is merely false advertising.
