    I worked at J. C. Penney part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Flexibly with this company is AMAZING! It's been quite a few years but I've had some of my fondest experiences with this company. My experience with this company, I have ALWAYS felt valued as an asset to the company which is of the most importance to me for any company. When I got accepted to my University and had to relocate they worked with me so that I was able to transfer to another store smoothly and continue work part time while attending school. There was opportunity to grow via promotion with Penney I've witness many entry level employees get promoted to manager and I believe had I stayed in retail I too would have been promoted in fact I believe thru my network with the company I can walk in my old store today and walk out with a management position if I wanted. I really appreciated my time with J.C. Penney they always supported me,

    Cons

One common con within the retail industry are the hours and J.C. Penney is no different. You will have to work on weekends and holidays. There were times when I worked all day Saturday, Sunday and ever some major holidays. That is just the nature of the industry there unusually is some sort of promotion on holidays and weekend which calls for more work hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to value your work force and it will go a long way. They will give you more. Be a leader that leads with example and not with only a title. Do not ask something of an employee that you yourself wouldn't or couldn't do.

I have been working at J. C. Penney full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great people, great company that genuinely does want to do right by its associates and customers. I've worked in retail for over 15 years, at a viariety of "Big Box" retailers and this is BY FAR the best company that cares most about it's associates.

    Cons

To be competitive in today's market you need to evaluate base pay. We have high turn over because entry level fast food pays better than entry level JCP. No wonder we have a sale floor full of idiots.

Former Employee - Women's Fitting Room Attendant in League City, TX

    I worked at J. C. Penney part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Lots of hours, especially during busy seasons.
Friendly coworkers made it feel like a family almost.
Lots of recognition when name is specifically mentioned on a review.
    Flexible schedule.

    Cons

When working fitting rooms, there is generally only one attendant per section scheduled. Meaning if one person doesn't show up, someone else already working has to take over and rooms are almost impossible to take care of when one person is trying to keep two sections organized during peak hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be willing to call someone in if a person is a no show. If not, at least tell the others there that someone isn't there before busy time.

    I worked at J. C. Penney part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The best reasons that I worked at JCPenney were associate discounts, styles of clothing and home merchandise. I also loved talking to other associates when business slowed down.

    Cons

The best challenges that I had were during the holiday seasons such as Christmas, Black Friday, Back to School where it started to get busy in order to help customers with their needs.
