I have been working at J. C. Penney part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The people I worked with were awesome and the associates get really close. The discount is nice too.

    Cons

No room for promotion unless you come from outside the country. Sometimes they give a lot of hours one week and none the next.

I have been working at J. C. Penney part-time for less than a year

    Pros

I like working at JCP because it's a fun place to work at if you get along with other people. I work in shoes and it can be hard work if you're lazy. But I love shoes and wouldn't want to work any other department. Discount is nice.

    Cons

Managers usually don't listen to you or resolve problems. The hours suck after awhile. They give the best hours to new people but expect you to work around their schedule if you get another job. The higher ups usually act snotty. The jcps I've been at, rare chance of promotion because they're losing business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees, give good raises.

    I worked at J. C. Penney full-time

    Pros

Pay was good and benefits were decent. Depending who you work for it can still be an OK work environment.

    Cons

Everyone feels like they could be outsourced at anytime. Management just want people who agree with how they want to do thing, not anyone who wants to challenge the status quo. Even if they can find no fault with your work, they will stop giving you good project opportunities so you have no chance for advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow people to challenge ideas without penalty of retribution. People who offer different opinions should be valued for not just accepting how things have been done in the past. Encourage healthy conflict and debate to promote growth and arrive at a better solution.

Overall, the company was a good company to work for, but the pushing of getting credit cards was the last straw for me.

    I worked at J. C. Penney part-time for less than a year

    Pros

They were quick to hire me. I had no experience and they took me in based on my character. Their training is also very efficient. They have an online training program that looks exactly like their cash registers, so I felt prepared when I finally had to ring up customers. It's a great company for people who don't have retail experience but want to learn.

    Cons

They pushed their credit too much. They do their best to show that they care about the staff members, but there are some managers who speak nasty to the employees. They also don't monitor who is stealing their clothes, and apparently if I caught people stealing I did not have the authority to check their bags.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better communication between management and employees. I know I was only part time but that doesn't mean I can't be in the know about policies and procedures.

    I worked at J. C. Penney part-time for more than a year

    Pros

it was fun. IF you have friends. IF your managers liked you. IF you got credit applications.

    Cons

focused way too much on credit applications. way too much gossip. unfair treatment. If you got credit applications you do not have to lift a finger.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

give credit to those who work hard too, not just those who got credit applications.

    Pros

Making friends, seeing people you know, a discount

    Cons

Management doesn't know half what you know, none of them can get on the same page.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want to keep your employees, you should probably up hold to your end of things, as well as all get on the same page.
