Pros
good pay with the ability to move up. paid vacation and flexible when scheduling hours for employees. a fun place to work
Cons
long hours with only 2 15 mintue breaks. you are always on your feet and you dont get a chance to sit down and rest
Advice to Senior Management
start hiring for management from within the staff. employees work hard to be promoted and it's tough to swallow when someone is brought in from the outside.
Pros
really there was not anything great about working for pennies expect the extra discount that was offered to their staff
Cons
You are treated as if you are a child and have no common sense at all. You are expected to do the job of five associates because of the lack of staff
Advice to Senior Management
To remeber that we are all adults and to talk to everyone with respect and to listen to your staff when they talk to you
Pros
In my experience JC Penney has been very flexible with work schedules, making it a great job for me while I attend college. They are also usually understanding about days you need off, as long as you ask in advance. Of all the places I have worked, the management team at JC Penney is the most respectful, supportive and encouraging. The management team is good at communicating changes in policy, as well as telling associates about all sales and special promotions. Employees are rewarded for good customer service and being team players. The discount on clothes is great (20%) plus you can use it in addition to other sales/cupons.
Cons
In my opinion, management spends too much time pushing employees to get credit card applications, especially during times when there are not many incentives for a customer to get a credit card. This gets rather irritating after awhile-even if you try to promote credit cards every day, you will not necessarily make your goal. While associates are rewarded for making credit goals, you do not usually get into a lot of trouble for not making them. The starting pay is not good, and raises are minimal and rare. Overall, though, I think this is a great position for people who need flexible hours; such as students, parents of young kids, and those who need a second job for extra income. I would not reccomend this position for those seeking full-time work, unless you will be working on commission.
Advice to Senior Management
No improvements needed-great job. The only thing I would ask for is better pay!
Pros
Discount
Manager made sure we got our breaks
Other employees were nice
Didn't have to put out new inventory, they had separate staff for this.
Leave ON TIME!
Cons
The pay sucked.
Advancement in the company was rare. I knew someone that worked there for 15 years and still was just a sales associate.
Advice to Senior Management
Let dedicated people get somewhere in the company. What is the point of having people there, hardly paying them, give them no hope of advancement and expect hard work?
Pros
Flexible scheduling. They are very aware to associates needs. They will go above and beyond when catering to your personal schedule.
Cons
The pay is not competitive. They do not provide a realistic plan for your career and instead motivate you by telling you someday!
Advice to Senior Management
Look at qaulified candidates that can fill positions before going to a trainee program or recruiting from outside the company.
Pros
Part-time benefits and friendly associates who agree that they will not be working for JC Penney's very long.
Cons
Long hours, poor leadership, not associate friendly, understaffed, did not give raises last year due to economic crisis, cares more about making the customer happy than their associates
Advice to Senior Management
Communication is key, trying to hire people that you would want to be representing your company in the public eye.
Pros
Good discounts for associates, some nice co-workers, fashion clothing and good paid time off days for full time associates.
Cons
Manager doesn't have a clue of what she is doing or how to handle arguments between associates. Supervisors are not polite, many don't even greet the customers when they enter the store(even though they themselves tell the associates in the morning meeting to greet every customer), supervisors are lazy, they don't comunicate with the associates, they don't come in time when you call them for help, they choose the associates they like and they are mean to the ones they don't like. Never enough associates on the floor to help the customers. A lot of gossip between co-workers. Some associates go outside the store to have a smoke like five times a day. This place at this location, is so bad, that I've seen good supervisors and good associates walking out and quit. This is not a good place to work for a honest, hardworker and kind person.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire a store manager that has a very deep trainning and that knows how to handle, politely, an argument between coworkers. Get a district manager to go to the store more often to watch what is going on in the store, they only clean up and get everything tidy, when they know the district manager is coming. Let the district manager show up by surprise, you would know what I'm talking about.
Pros
I like the dress code. Every one looks nice when they come to work. I like the discounts on merchandise, although sometimes I spend too much here! The supervisors are up beat and friendly. The general store manager seems to really care about customer service. I enjoy working with the customers and helping them find what they need.
Cons
My manager is never here! Do they watch us on camera to supervise us or what! Does he really have that much paper work to do! Also the supervisors spend a lot of time in the lunch room or somewhere else???
Advice to Senior Management
Management could spend a little more time with the employees in order to find out what is going on. There is a little too much competition in commission sales, but overall the atmosphere is friendly and I like my co-workers.
Pros
I Love all the people I work with!
Cons
They drop your pay after 20 weeks $2 hr because they want you to get commission, It's pretty hard to work up the commission in this department, you do more sales instead of Designing!! Don't do this job if you are an Interior Designer, they lure you in with lies telling you it is designing, IT"S NOT!!!!This job is way to much stress for what they pay!!!
Advice to Senior Management
Hire sales people for Custom not Interior Designers!!
Pros
Not much of anything. I am sure you can find better elsewhere.
Cons
Low Pay.
Workers throw one another under the bus.
Too much emphasis on Charge Credit Applications.
When you are a new employee make sure you stand up to the veteran employees they like to throw you under the bus, avoid ringing at all costs, and hide out cleaning all night.
Their turnover rate is high, which explains why they have people who have been working a short time and then ones that have worked their over 20 years.
Advice to Senior Management
I don't have any problems with the Management. I like my managers. They don't have control on how much we get paid.
