I worked at J. C. Penney part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Most of the customers were nice. Our store wasn't too busy that often with the exception of black friday and christmas eve. They actually provided catering for us on those two days.
I was also in both college and a local play at the time and they were excellent at scheduling around that for me.
In the case of irate customers who flipped out, they would escort them out of the store. Unlike when I worked at Walgreens where we were forced to endure it, and then be written up.

    Cons

The bad thing about the store being slow meant that since I was hired seasonally, they didn't keep me. At our store, everyone who was hired seasonally and didn't have children were laid off. It took me 3 months to finally find another job.
There were also a lot of gossip amongst employees. It was like high school all over again.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you can, control the gossip. And keep some of us younger seasonal employees.

    I worked at J. C. Penney full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

If you come in as a seasonal employee you may get a chance to become permanent. When you become permanent you get benefits such as medical, 401k. My favorite thing about JCPenney was the direct deposit. No going to the bank to cash your check. You also get to show off how competitive you are. It is a fun atmosphere. They give you reviews and you do get raises based on your review. My favorite things were the team meetings. It was fun.

    Cons

You may not the amount of hours you want. Sometimes not enough and sometimes you might get too much. My only problem I had was that when I moved. MARTA was not the best way to get there. So the con wasn't really the job. The pay is okay depending on what department you work in. If you were part time then you are part time.. Sometimes if you are too good at what you do you may get trapped in one department.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If someone wants to do better then allow them to do better, don't lock them into one position without any opportunity for growth.
