    I worked at J. C. Penney full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

They offer paid time off for some positions once you've earned enough hours.
They do offer some kind of insurance
Short shifts, if that is what you enjoy. Most shifts are 5 hours and 45 minutes to keep you under a 6 hour shift.

    Cons

Their charity partners are a problem if you have religious reasons like I do for not being able to participate in those. I talked to my store manager and I didn't ask for most donations to their partners after that.

I have been working at J. C. Penney part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

There was great employee discount (20% I believe). It was also really great experience for a fist job. I worked at the store for a seasonal period during Christmas and it was very busy but gave me a chance to gain customer service skills.

    Cons

The management was not the best. It seemed unorganized at times.

    Pros

Discretion to build great teams, celebration of employees was great to watch and take part in. Family atmosphere

    Cons

Senior Management without direction, constantly seeking agenda hidden within agenda, made retail "not fun" anymore.

I have been working at J. C. Penney full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

If you show initiative they will take the time to help you develop management skills. I believe it's a great job for people who have never had a job, because JCPenney takes the time to train you in many areas. From customer service skills to time management, and communication.

    Cons

Some times a lot of the people hired are young, and they don't have the desire to work as hard. JCPenney needs to hire more people that are motivated, and have good people skills. I think the pay should be increased, because it is a lot of work, it can be stressful, and we're the faces of the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I believe management should spend more time training new hires.

    I worked at J. C. Penney part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Great co workers, built long relationships with many people there. Great diverse group of people make the whole experience enjoyable despite the bad management staff.

    Cons

Long hours, especially during holidays. Poor pay even for retail, no reward for accomplishing tasks. Just a thanks and move you to the next place to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work on leadership skills of all on floor managers. This will help reduce the turnover rate.

    Pros

If you need to, you can work quite a few hours during seasonal times and make decent money.

    Cons

It's a cesspool of unhappy people working jobs they hate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't just hire anyone, especially immature high school students.

I have been working at J. C. Penney part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Decent hours for low-end retail - I usually get over 30 per week.
25% discount on all JCP products.
Surprisingly enjoyable work environment and team.

    Cons

Virtually no training - there were six videos new associates were supposed to watch, but I only got to see two before being thrown on the floor.

Doesn't seem to be much upward mobility - though that may be due to the market.

Poor communication from district to store - customers often know about upcoming sales before we do and the catalog and our in-store stock match much less frequently than would be desired.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To be perfectly blunt, I am asked to do a lot of stuff that seems above and beyond the call with no real incentive to do so. Why should I be driven to sell care plans most customers don't want or need or bring in credit applications when I'm not on commission and the only reward for credit is two dollars per credit app when most of the customers I deal with say they already have a JCP card?

    Pros

    25% discount, good hours,paid training,relaxed dress code.employees very friendly.mangers are sometimes nice.

    Cons

super short breaks, work long hours, has to stay after closing to clean up store.Which is ridiculous clothes everywhere, and trash just everywhere. Some of the managers wouldn't even help clean up they would stand there and bark orders.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maybe try helping employees clean up store at end of night. And make longer breaks.
