    Pros

    easy shifts, flexible hours especially if your a college student

    Cons

    managers are not friendly at all. Too many employees, we had like 30 employees for such a small store.

    Pros

    Good discount incentives, fellow associates and a handful of managers are awesomely fun.

    Cons

    Terribly ineffective management, I.e. Lack of communication between managers, passive aggressive, condescending hostility from managers toward associates and no accountability for managers.
    They give you the run around when you try to negotiate your availability or pursuing other opportunities such as transferring to another store or another position.

    Advice to Management

    Corporate needs to listen to the pleas of its associates and weed out the awful managers that tarnish their stores and what could be an enjoyable work environment.

    Pros

    The discount is absolutely amazing. I'm a marketing major and it was a great opportunity to learn how to market myself. You get to work with clients on a 1 on 1 basis and develop relationships.

    Cons

    Sometimes the "team" isn't a team. People who often work within the store are in it for themselves and do not care about other coworkers.

    Advice to Management

    My location had poor management. They often hire young adults who are "learning" and their "title" makes them superior.

    Pros

    generous discount and employee allotment. Co-workers tend to be supportive and make the atmosphere fun. J. Crew does a wonderful way of introducing and educating employees on new products. Quality of clothing is great and makes it easier to sell.

    Cons

    Management can diminish the workplace culture. Routine becomes mundane doing the same thing, lateral growth.

    Advice to Management

    Ensure that the management that you enlist is fair. Difficult to navigate the corporate maze because of the fear factor instilled by management.

    Fantastic group of people to work with in a creative environment. Great discounts on the clothes and great work ethic.

    Pros

    at the beginning it was a very enjoyable experience and it was easy to get more money and move up.

    Cons

    once you reach management they seem to take more care of people who are cheap (salary wise) or have been with the company more than 10 years, regardless of the success of the individual.

    When reviewing evaluations, evaluate the evaluator as well.

    Pros

    The training is extensive and actually quite helpful for those just getting started in retail. Excellent employee discount and incentives. Customers are generally very friendly and enjoyable to work with.

    Cons

    Work environment was quite clique-y and overall, it was not a particularly positive place to be. A lot of gossiping and complaints about management and other team members.

    Pros

    Will be recognized if you put in the effort. A lot of transparency between senior staff and associates. Storewide bonuses apply to everyone.

    Cons

    Oftentimes little diversity so intercultural communication between associates/customers are compromised; associate discounts sometimes equal or less than online/in store promotions

    Advice to Management

    Keep being an overwhelmingly positive influence and your team's effort will glow.
