    Loved working with upscale clothes, permanents get a full outfit for free which is cool

    Loved working for J Crew as the employee benefits were incredible. Also the constantly active atmosphere made it a wonderful place to work.

    Cons

    Do wish that the compensation in commission was higher. When working hard to make sales, I would have loved for the commission to be higher.

    Pros

    A great way to exercise interpersonal and sales skills. J.Crew is a great company that holds a good philosophy on how to treat its customers and workers, when properly practiced. You learn a lot on how to dress well and nail the "J.Crew look", which is helpful on so many occasions.

    Cons

    Depending on the store you work at, management may be cliquey and pretentious. It is retail after all but there are people who seem to work here just for the status and employee discounts.

    Advice to Management

    For managers who want to reach hourly, daily and monthly quotas be more personal with your staff and actually train them. Numbers don't mean as much to us as they do to you.

    Pros

    J. Crew is an amazing company to work for. I have worked at the same location for going on 3 and a half years. I have always had amazing managers, directors and coworkers in my time. The company treats employees with much respect and equality. Beautifully constructed clothing offered with skilled customer service is the driver behind J. Crew's success.

    Cons

    On call shifts are no fun, but needed in case a scheduled shift cannot be filled for unexpected reasons

    Pros

    Flexible with work schedule, co-workers were amazing (but that depends on the location), amazing discounts, managers are reasonable with sales associates and fostered a friendly environment within the store teams. Customer service was a priority.

    Cons

    Regional management was too clique-ish, too much focus on looking "J. Crew" not enough focus on how to improve sales for unattainable sales goals. They did not provide tools only pressured to do better.

    Advice to Management

    Re-evaluate realistic sales goals, considering how many stores are in the location. Cater product carried in the store to the location.

    Pros

    Excellent co-workers, strong emphasis on excellent customer service, great employee discount.

    Cons

    Occasional very early or late shifts when taking inventory or resetting the store with new product. Dress code may be cost prohibitive for some, as they require a very current J. Crew sort of look (which includes wearing the new fall line in the sweltering summer...)

    Advice to Management

    I have no advice to management at this time. My managers were kind, fair, competent, and good to work for.

    Pros

    -Management is very friendly and skilled
    -Great flexibility, works around your schedule
    -Not too stressful most of the time

    Cons

    -The company does not hire from within
    -Pay raises are not too frequent
    -Other than this, no significant cons for a sales associate

    Advice to Management

    My only advice is to keep up the good work. I feel that management runs the store in a great way and hope that this continues.

    At least for temporary workers, there were few hours available.

    Higher fewer workers, offer greater hours.
