    Pros

Good discount, nice people, the discount is really good and it's a good combination of working hard and being around good people and making relationships with ℅ workers and customers

    Cons

Inconsistent hours makes it hard to schedule your life. Consistent hours and days would be nice. Don't do on-call shifts.

    Advice to Management

Don't just tell associates that they are important but show them through decent pay and benefits. Recognize that happy employees will help you meet your company goals.

    Pros

There are great discounts, great clothing, and lots of support from management and the company overall to assist the customers so that they have a great shopping experience.

    Cons

There were too many on-call shifts, overnights, not enough pay, zero commission, and not enough support for growth.

    Advice to Management

    Be leaders, not managers.

    Pros

Great discount and sales benefits. Genuine concern from company for excellent customer service. Merchandise is quality, so it was easy to sell.

    Cons

Can be hard to meet sales goals at smaller stores that lack higher end products. Environment amongst sales staff can be competitive in a negative way.

    Advice to Management

Reward people who hustle. Create a system that is not honor based for tracking associate sales. Carry petites and bathing suits in more stores.

    Pros

In this position it was great being hourly because being able to make time and a half anything over 40hrs and or working on holidays. You also get to learn a lot from your peers.

    Cons

You always have to work every weekend unless you request to have it off months in advance. If hours need to be cut, yours are the first one to go. Also never being able to get the respect from subordinates or seasonal key holders who may have been with the company longer than you. I understand one needs to pay their dues but to be treated with distain is unsettling. Trying to get into corporate from stores is another total issue. Why corporate visits the stores one is treated as if not one manager at any level has a brain!

    Advice to Management

If a merchant has never had any or very little retail experinence make it mandatory for them to spend two weeks including a full weekend to understand the business of how the floor works, what the customer is asking and to also be treated by the general public as idiots. In addition have someone from corporate come in waist your time or a sales associate time and then tell the cashier that oops I work at 770, my bad! On top of it leave a complete disaster in the dressing room and make you look all over the store or phone other stores for a size that you don't have to only say after all of it I work at 770.

    Pros

Great if you like the brand for discounts on clothing.

    Cons

J Crew not a good employer. On Call shifts are unfair and unreasonable. High turnover forces you to pick up more hours than you want. But - for those who want more hours, they can't get them when they want. It's always a one way street with J Crew. You only get your schedule one week in advance so difficult to plan your schedule if you work part time and have family responsibilities.

    Advice to Management

Treat people fairly - on call shifts are unreasonable. If they are a must, perhaps change to at least a 4 hour call in advance. 2 hours in advance (the time to phone for your on call shift) is so unfair, especially when you have more than a 30 min. commute.
