    Pros

    Good leadership.
    Clear business vision.
    Financially strong and profitable.
Won many business and technical awards over last 5-6 years

    Cons

Company size makes it a challenge to compete with both larger and smaller companies.

    Advice to Management

Need to either grow through merger or acquisition or get smaller to compete in different business categories for federal contracts.

  3. Fun place to work, but employees were not all treated equally. A lot of favoritism.

    Pros

There were no pros to working at Waller the last couple of years before I left because it was obvious ownership was trying to sell and had no vision whatsoever about how to turn the company in to a success.

    Cons

No cons to report are left since they sold out to Versar and now Versar is calling the shots.

    Advice to Management

Versar leadership buying this company for $13M proves P.T. Barnum was correct -- there is a sucker born every minute.

    Pros

Leadership communicates with employees about vision and strategic direction.
    Competitive pay and benefits.
The company strives for quality and excellence in services provided.
    Leadership listens to new ideas.

    Cons

The company is small, which is both a pro and con. You are treated as a person, not just a number, but the small size of the company limits upward mobility.

    Advice to Management

With the economy picking up, it might be a good time to expand into other market areas.

    Pros

I’ve been fortunate to work at J. M. Waller. During my 5 years, I’ve been promoted twice. The company provides career development, training, excellent benefits—an HRA which the company funds as well as a matching 401(k). Their benefits broker advised us J. M. Waller benefits were like a Fortune 500 company’s and above average for their size.

    Cons

Government contracting has been slow. J. M. Waller has lost some work.

    Advice to Management

Consider teaming with larger government contractors.

    Pros

Most employees and mid-level managers are very professional and great to work with. Many employees have stuck with the company despite upper managements overwhelming poor business judgement and management.

    Cons

The company is poorly managed and very top heavy. Recent firings have increased rumors about financial problems. Senior managers seem arrogant and show little regard for workers. There is one set of standards for the workers and one for upper manager and owners. Most employees feel used and no one is secure in their position. Pay is low and benefits are below industry standard. Everyone is just waiting for more layoffs. The company just feels unstable. It won't take much cause a mass exodus.

    Advice to Management

Read the company core values. Make more of an effort to truly engage employees. Most employes see what is happening so be honest about the company's future and take responsibility for the poor performance. Get rid of upper managers who drag the company down.

    Pros

Most of the employees are friendly and professional. The employees are good at their jobs and delivery a good product/service.

    Cons

Pay is low, increases or bonuses are basically non existent. There is very little training other than PowerPoint on the company website. There is also no communication from upper management.

    Advice to Management

Provide basic training when hired so employees know how to enter time and expense report. Trying to figure it out on our own is not working. Keep employees informed about direction and state of the company
