I worked at J.P. Morgan (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Overall, a great Firm and I'm happy with what I accomplished there over a decade.

    Cons

Few bad apples in senior management roles for my LOB. HR was difficult to navigate for REAL help on employee issues.

    I worked at J.P. Morgan full-time

    Pros

Great name and reputation. Fantastic access to senior political and business leaders globally. Great employee benefits.

    Cons

Completely dysfunctional culture - not what you'd expect from a firm that employs some of the smartest minds.

    Advice to Management

Pick your department/function carefully, develop management to grow team instead looking after themselves.

I worked at J.P. Morgan as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

My first summer was amazing. Very friendly team and couldn't of asked for a better experience. I learned a lot and really got the feel for what corporate america is like.

    Cons

My second summer was miserable. My boss gave me no time and very little feedback. The whole team was more worried about furthering their own career than actually helping. In the end this lead me to not accept the full time position.

    Advice to Management

Really look closely at who you allow to be mentors/managers for the interns. It can make a world of difference.

I worked at J.P. Morgan full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits for full time employees are competitive with the financial industry. As a very large IT shop there are opportunities to see and occasionally work with the latest technologies.

    Cons

The company has a very high turnover rate in employees. they hire full time employees and contractors for a project then eliminate the team at the end of the project.

    Advice to Management

Improve the employee retention rate by valuing full time employees over contractors. Develop strategies for employment that aren't project based.

I worked at J.P. Morgan full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    * Was hired as a Recent Grad Applications Developer. The company as such is good, the pay package and benefits for the location was good. * Nice and friendly co-workers * Management was understanding most of the times

    Cons

    * I personally didn't find the job meaty enough, that too for a recent grad who is hungry to go challenging work * Too much bureaucracy and slow moving * Technology is not the Product, its just considered as IT. So working on the Tech side which is not considered as the product means low exposure to the company * People are really nice but the problem is passion might be missing at times

    Advice to Management

Please be more technology focussed and open towards open source technologies. There are challenging problems to be solved but there are few people with the vision. Please stop asking tech folks to wear fancy banker costumes to work!

    Positive Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

I worked at J.P. Morgan as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Most of the teams are flexible timing wise and work is not micro managed - Lots of ideas/tools/technologies can be learned if you are interested - Get to network with peers and technology leaders if you are keen on knowing initiatives - Can move around if you know right people

    Cons

    - Teams work in Silos and re-invention of the wheel happens quite often - Initiation to Design phase and you lose lot of business support cause you have drifted in solution because of inefficient and not so concise requirements - When project deadlines are escalated then all work is loaded onto contractors and are held responsible - Be ready to hear back from management if you are in client facing roles

    Advice to Management

Management practices need to be streamlined across LOB's.

  11. Good place to start or end, not for middle

I worked at J.P. Morgan full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great medical and discount benefits, strong name recognition for resume, good training opportunities

    Cons

Too many layers of management, very low pay unless in upper management, capped raises

    Advice to Management

Uncap raises! Your employees want to advance, but leave because of limited earning potential
