I worked at J.P. Morgan full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

interesting work, credit department probably the best place I've seen in banks

    Cons

the culture can be competitive. 360 review of manager is before 360 review of employees, so there is no independent feedback really, the manager gets to see what you said before they rate you

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

stop paying yourself such a big bonus and deflate your ego, Mr Dimon

I have been working at J.P. Morgan

    Pros

Large scale software and systems engineering exposure
    Open source

    Cons

Regulatory constraints keep the industry / firms behind the cutting-edge IT landscape largely influenced and shaped by firms like Google, AWS, Facebook, Twitter etc

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Partner with industry leaders like AWS cloud to quickly close this gap

I have been working at J.P. Morgan full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Excellent access to training
    Numerous technologies
Chances may exist for inter company relocation

    Cons

High Pressure artificially created by managers to improve their scorecard
Staff who can't use merit to progress use politics with managers not skilled at reading people
Grades and Bonus assessed not based on past year's performance, but whether the resource is required for the coming year
Slow progress, a herds of similar level folk try to progress and competition asymmetrical as some of them don't have families and willing to reply emails on Christmas Day after midnight
If they start a Performance Improvement, Quit, HR said no one has ever survived it

I have been working at J.P. Morgan full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    - a behemoth, containing worlds within worlds
    - many, many opportunities
    - some superb people- overall, the culture is one of respect for co-workers.

    Cons

-some pockets of poor behaviours- noticeable more as an exception that the rule
    - given the size and complexity of the organisation, it's a huge challenge to get everyone on the same page

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote from within where possible- bringing in "senior" staff often means they bring their bad habits with them, and assume poor behaviours are ok.
