    I worked at J-W Energy Company full-time

    Pros

It is a great place to work (facilities and coworkers). Great place to learn about the industry. You wear many hats, which will develop you for the future.

    Cons

No direction from the Middle Management and the Top Management (lack of leadership). Management takes to long to make decisions. Pay is subpar for the industry for employees, unless you are in upper management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find a direction and do it! More communication with employees on direction. Need more top down communications.

    Pros

Lots of talented employees with good ethics and willingness to get the job done right. Plenty of opportunities to grow and learn more in your area from others. Small company with flat structure that allows for quick decisions and action.

    Cons

Employee benefits are not as good as related to other similar companies in our field. Small company dynamics sometimes gets in the way of moving forward with new ideas.

Great company until management change in 2010, which brought about power struggle that crippled great work environment

I worked at J-W Energy Company

    Pros

Very co-operative group of employees, and great HR department. They are an intergrated E&P and Services company, which would help you learn a lot if you talk to the staff around. Very helpful staff but management can be tricky to deal with.

    Cons

Management does not spell out goals on which to achieve success. No monthly financial meetings with employees, which leaves employees in the dark about how the company is performing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change the shared services model. It is a shame how it is run.

I have been working at J-W Energy Company

    Pros

As with most oil & gas companies, life/work balance is good and pay scale is good, nice new office building with decent cubes. Most of the people you work with on a daily basis are friendly and helpful.

    Cons

-Expect to be micromanaged, even if you are a member of management. Any expertise you have will quickly be dismissed.
-On a number of occasions I've witnessed employees being berated by management during meetings, this seems to be a part of the management culture.
-Communication is extremely poor from leadership down.
-Advancement is based on being friends of, or part of the family that owns the company.
-There's no clear direction from company leadership, tasks change on a regular basis and there seems to be no real commitment to completing projects. This is a strange quality to go along with micromanaging your employees, but they pull it off by redirecting efforts constantly.
-There's no framework for providing feedback to employees, yearly reviews are non-existent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Talk to your employees, get some feedback and make an attempt at raising morale.
-Assign people to positions where they have expertise, and allow them to do their jobs and make basic decisions. Stop placing responsibility in the hands of family friends who aren't qualified, this widens the gap in communication with the people that are actually doing the work.
-No more business formal attire, every other company in the industry is business casual.

I have been working at J-W Energy Company full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Many great employees. OK salary and benefits.

    Cons

Company is not growing. Lots of layoffs in 2011 & 2012. Privately held. Constant in fighting and politics between companies. Nepetism and cronyism leads to poor decisions by people who are untouchable. Good employees are routinely sacrificed for doing what would be rewarded at other companies. Best practices not followed in many areas. Many employees are unhappy and fearful for their jobs. Business tied too closely to natural gas prices. Recent attempts to sell off assets.

I have been working at J-W Energy Company

    Pros

Good employee relations across the many different businesses and offices makes a great place to work.
    Real family friendly work environment.
Exceptional vacation destination benefits equally available for all employees.
Always caring for employees health and putting safety first.
Training and classes provided to employees, both on a personal and professional level.

    Cons

Only provides onshore activity and services.
Not very flexible to work from home with oil pump gas prices today.
    Eight-to-five standard work week.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I am proud to work for a company that has built a reputation of integrity in the natural gas industry for over 50 years.

Thank you for providing a culture committed to safe practices in our work environment.

I have been working at J-W Energy Company

    Pros

-Overall, the employees are friendly and can teach one a lot about the natural gas industry. They are eager to help eachother and are intellegent in their field.
    -Beautiful, new office building
-Pilots on staff to fly employees to and from field office locations (efficient for necessary mtgs and events)
-loyal employees (some of which have been with the company for 10+ years)

    Cons

-Management needs to recognize the potential and expertise of their employees by meeting with them and learning from them. Communication from the work being done to upper management is poor and therefore, the most productive decisions are not always made.
-Attention is not always placed on the most important issues... but on frivolous things.
-I wish there was more emphasis on the overall morale of the office.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Open better lines of communication across the board. The company has great potential and I would hate to see it not reached because of poor communication skills.
