    Studio Associate

Former Employee - Sale Associate & Photographer
Former Employee - Sale Associate & Photographer

    Pros

Using your creativity to take great photographs. Seeing the customers face when they love the images. I liked the hours of operations. I enjoyed working with my team. We had each others back. I loved using the props and coming up with new ideas.

    Cons

Busy season is RIDICULOUS. Appointments were scheduled 15 minutes apart. With mothers and (unpredictable) children and babies being the largest portion of their clientele this was way too little time. The line was always backed up which means grumpy parents and children. You have to have a high tolerance for stress.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More time scheduled between appointments. I think customer satisfaction would be higher if they felt they weren't being rushed. I would have liked more team meetings to chat with other team members about our goals. Sometimes it felt like the associates were in too much competition with one another.

    -Photographing
    -Being creative
-When parents love the pictures and they thank you, you feel good about yourself and that you made someone happy
    -Creating memories for others
    -Working in a team

    Cons

-Low pay for the amount that you do
-10-15 minute sessions that get parents upset because they had been waiting for hours for only 15 minutes
-We can't take more than 15 pictures, which also gets some parents upset
    -Expected to have high sales
    -Working every weekend
    -8-10 hour shifts
    -Crazy holiday seasons
-Guests that get upset at you and complain
-Not being appreciated as much as you should be by higher ups in the company

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Be more considerate of your employees, we work hard and we don't feel very appreciated at times
-Better pay for all that we do
-Lower the expectations for high sales, especially when you have so many coupons going on
-Don't overbook a studio and expect them to do a 10 minute sit and only take 15 pictures
-Care more about the guest and not about making money

Former Employee - Studio Manager in Denver, CO

    Pros

Loved, loved, loved working with the kiddos, getting to see them grow up. Fun job in the off season. Benefits were average, pay and bonus structure decent.

    Cons

Company policies on staffing the studio, and camera room time allotted are waaaayyy out of line for both the customer and the employees, causing a stressed out environment for both. Pay for photographers is too low for the amount of physicality and energy it takes to get saleable images. Which leads to high turn-over. DM horrible to work for.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Really look at your district manager's turn-over rate for Studio Managers, there is a reason, certain DM's can't retain employees, when they constantly treat them with disrespect.

    Pros

Being creative and making treasured memories to last for more than just one persons lifetime. Portraits get passed down from generation to generation.

    Cons

The pay is not comparable to how physically demanding the job is...weekends off were few and far between. High pressure to sell sell sell

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your people better..home office is home every night and every weekend. Yet you get the big bucks

Current Employee - Studio Team Member in Fredericksburg, VA

    Pros

Great job if you would like to use some of your creativity with guest that will allow it, also a lot of fun if you enjoy working with children.

    Cons

Parents can be demanding, cannot go over hours working with a customer, and keeping your sales average at a minimum.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have someone at the front desk to deal with phone calls and setting up appointments if the photographer/seller is the only one there and is already working with a customer. Its not fair that we should have to juggle 3 different customers at the same time.

    Pros

Most of the kids were great and adorable. The parents are hell.

    Cons

Low pay for a lot of physical labor. The expectations from corporate are completely out of line for what is actually attainable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is no way in hell that anyone should be expected to finish and sell a portrait session in 20 minutes with another appointment coming in when you're all alone. They really need to take a step back and look at the way they are calculating their labor hours.
