    Pros

The team of engineers are top notch and the scope of work can be challenging and use cutting edge solutions.

    Cons

No value whatsoever is placed on the engineers. You are treated purely like a company asset with no regard for work/life balance or career direction. Your experience and professionalism are completely ignored and your integrity is sacrificed to meet unrealistic and questionable business goals.

    Advice to Management

You are losing your best employees because of your short-term views and lack of respect for your engineers. As the job market is improving this is only going to accelerate. There needs to be a fundamental shift in how you treat the R&D teams and a serious review of the behavior of your senior management team.

    Pros

Projects are technically challenging and there is a lot to learn as an Engineer and tools are available to expand your skill set. My direct manager is great to work with, provides good direction and keeps us positive.

    Cons

Program managers are clueless, define their own schedules that are not based on reality. Senior managers and executives are not providing a clear direction for the company, seems like they are just trying to make their bonuses and collecting stock options. Engineers are over worked and under paid in most cases, especially when compared to other tech companies in the valley. We are always being rushed to design and order parts, seems like we are constantly putting out fires and most of it is because of the program managers giving bad direction. Morale is real low mostly because of the way Program Managers are managing projects and Engineers are being over worked because of it.

    Advice to Management

Provide a clear direction to employees Have program managers define realistic schedules and make the schedule clear to all team members. Find more customers to sell our products to so that we are not so heavily invested into just one main customer. Re-evaluate pay for Engineers that are more competitive with tech companies in the valley. Have Managers provide a better work life balance for employees by defining realistic schedules for projects and encouraging employees to take DTO on a more regular basis besides the end of year shutdown.

    Pros

Good hardworking people in the trenches here. Also unlimited PTO.

    Cons

There are always fires, and you need get the time nor resources to fully put those fires out for good. As soon as the emergency is over, it is on to the next fire before the first fire gets big again. It seems management was more worried about the next quarter profits, then setting up for long term success. it can be very frustrating for an Engineer.

    Advice to Management

Focus on making great reliable products, rather then jumping around and losing focus.

    Pros

The team I worked with was awesome. There were 4 of us including my manager supporting the entire US. The team supported each other and as very focused on customer satisfaction.

    Cons

Some of the internal databases were cumbersome and simply took too long to create and update issue tickets. The ESPP wasn't very attractive at only a 5% discount on stock purchases.

    Advice to Management

Be more consistent in the data base and tracking systems that are used. Take the time to get things right out of the blocks. It was quite frustrating trying to navigate and create ticket issues as requested.

    Pros

Good, solid people. Interesting products. Fascinating global environment.

    Cons

They are demanding, and the only thing you get for completing one project it another project. They rarely say thank you, or give praise.

    Advice to Management

Allow more fun at work, celebrate the wins more with people, allow a few luxuries for people. maybe an espresso machine, lunches out or something. Don't be afraid to say thank you. People need to hear that every once in awhile even if they are quite senior in a company.

    Pros

Fellow employees are great, had a few good managers Compensation and benefits are good Ability to work remotely was a huge plus Company has some really cool products and services, the leader in many markets. Really nice working with remote teams that spanned the globe

    Cons

Past few years in IT org definitely felt like an expendable "resource". IT department is race to the bottom, to the point of crassness. Very uninspiring, low moral. Not uncommon to work 60 hour weeks. 80 hr/week on bigger projects. Zero career guidance or development from management, though some training funds available. You were 100% on your own to stay marketable and relevant. States side IT org whittled down to the bone, except for the boom of on/off-shored hiring within past 3-4 years via Indian.

    Advice to Management

Sadly none to give that will make a difference.
