    Pros

It was a great job. Talented people. Secure. Good pay and benefits. I had the ability there to contribute extensively in problem solving and improvements plant wide.

    Cons

The con is we used to be Craftmaster Mfg. and we were purchased by Jeld-Wen. Jeld-Wen is home based in Klamath Falls Oregon. They terminated or drastically reduced the function and capacity of our engineering, HR, customer support and accounting departments. These functions were to be practiced at their corporate office. Jeld-Wen has many plants worldwide and all the plants are basically production and warehousing only. All admin and engineering functions are located in the corporate location.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Our upper management was great. We were a proud and top notch company with an outstanding reputation as Craftmaster. The management and technical people all worked as a team.

    Pros

Overtime in busy season. Good benefits. Plenty of opportunity to move up in the company.

    Cons

Long stressful hours in the summer lots of turn over so its hard to keep a solid crew to keep production up and make incentive but insentive is possible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Former Employee - Regional Sales Representative

    Pros

Develop business acumen, strengthen your public speaking, manage multi-million dollar markets, great peers, ability to manage your territory like your own business. Overall, good individual autonomy without micro management.

    Cons

Certain markets lag a balance between professional and personal time. Redundant work projects due to lack of planning or per customer request. Cost of living in some markets are higher than others thus, base salary can be a bit short and no opportunity to earn a commission in some channels of business. Position is two-fold; in-store service (janitorial work) and some outside sales opportunities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop printing/sign relationships closer to regions to minimize shipping costs and lag time to receive ordered items. Review Marketing staff as repetitive and costly mistakes continue to be made. They may be short staffed or need help working within unrealistic timelines. Vision for new products is great---keep that initiative. Develop commission structure to maintain a quality salesforce in all channels. Divest of in-store activities to part-time hiring firms.

    Pros

Comfortable, relaxed place to work; good work environment; fair pay for fair effort; good benefits; long-term benefits are first-rate

    Cons

Owned and operated by one or two people, so subject to fits of whim and fancy by those individuals; Current economic condition has led to multiple layoffs, terminations, reduction in work hours and salaries

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make a stronger effort to retain valuable employees in these economic hard times; be more cautious in acquiring other companies; place a higher value on employees

Current Employee - Group Manager in Lexington, NC

    Pros

It is a good company that takes pretty good care of their employees. The management at the plant level was good to work with and all worked pretty well together. When I was there everyone wanted to do a good job and everyone worked pretty well together to accomplish the overall goals of the plant.

    Cons

Working in a factory gets a little monotonous. The extreme heat and cold temperatures make it uncomfortable in the winter and the summer months. Being a private company we were left out of the loop on a lot of information that we would have been notified of if the company was public and had to disclose.
