Former Employee – worked at Jack in the Box full-time for more than 3 years

ProsFree drinks, casual dress code, fitness center, Jack in the Box restaurant in the building (not open to public), and pretty good health benefits...

ConsWhere do I begin? This place is going down the toilet fast! Ever since Paul (former COO) left, it's been a nightmare. The executives have no idea what they're doing and were only promoted based on who they are friends with or who they worked with in the past. They don't give a crap about their employees and unless you're in the "inner circle", you'll never have a chance for advancement.
They'll say they can't afford giving bonuses, yet I know for a FACT the CEO gets a 7-figure bonus each year. They have laid off or "encouraged early retirement" for approx. half the corporate workforce in the past year and are outsourcing as many departments as they can for the cheapest prices possible.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere is absolutely no point in trying to give advice to management- they'll never listen and will do whatever they want anyway. In just a few years, they have managed to turn this company from one of the best places to work in San Diego, to one of the worst. So sad.

Current Employee – been working at Jack in the Box full-time for more than 10 years

Pros-Great gym on site
-Cafeteria on site-unfortunately it's a Jack in the Box
-Alternate work schedule

Cons-Not part of the "in-crowd"
-Ideas not taken into consideration
-No communication from manamgement
-Management trying to run the department without knowledge of subject
-Employee's are just a number to executives
-Forcing out employee's with tenure, either by position elimination or early retirement
-People aren't helping each other anymore. Afraid they may be the next person on the chopping block. If you are part of the 'In-crowd" you don't have to worry about this.

Advice to Senior ManagementPractice what you preach. If you are trying to get away from the power role, then why do you let your managers and directors run amuck stomping their feet until the employee submits to their point of view. Lastly, take a serious look at that in crowd nonesense. It can really hurt a department.

Former Employee – worked at Jack in the Box part-time for less than a year

ProsTough economy--at least I was able to make some money.

ConsManagement was terrible. I quit after about two weeks--a month. Management trained their emplyees to disregard almost every regulation set into place by OSHA and the health department. Would get mad at me for "not being efficient enough" when I would stop to wash my hands without being asked (even though I had touched something nasty that would clearly require me to wash up) and tried charging me money for my final paycheck. They also would say extremely rude, demeaning things if you didn't understand what you were being asked to do. Also didn't train properly--they sat me in the back for about a week to watch videos on how to prepare the food, but then they just randomly threw me on as a cashier without training me whatsoever on how to do my job. That being said, they almost fired me for not doing my job properly.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat your employees with some dignity! I get it, it's fast food. It isn't exactly the most glorious thing in the world. But we're still human beings and deserve to be treated as such.

ProsYou get discounts on food.

ConsThis has to be the worst job that I have every worked! It's a very high stressed and demanding job. It doesn't pay enough for the stress that I deal with there. We're always short staffed all the time and the benefits aren't that great!

ProsGood company, opportunities and values that balances family time and work time, Jack and Linda are great CEO, is a company that always change and become stronger as management set goals to improve sales and profit.

ConsCEO needs to see what is going on, too many employees and management looking for other jobs were they appreciete the hard work done 24/7 every day. Too many changes and the new Directors of Operation they know what is going on and they do not say or they do not want to see it. Managers working more that 45 hours per week and no one can say any thing, HR know that and they are ingnoring the issue. Top leadership management is supporting the franchise model which hire employees with no management skills that do not support the Jack in the Box system and they do not use them as is mandated by the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook into the midle management that are managing the regions, they are selecting the people that do not have the skills requiered for the position (Education: some they only have High School and they have been promored to District Managers), low pay restaurant manager, and look into the real picture of what is going on every day in the franchise restaurant operation, go for what you see not for what you hear from the franchise leadership (they only look for their money and forget about the company vision.

ProsTime flies - when it's a busy day, it won't be long before the shift ends. Plus, there tends to be easygoing hours, not to mention it's very quick to catch up on.

ConsI'm not sure if it was the store itself, but there were so many days that it's utterly packed it would be scary. Not to mention the silly more-than-what-should-exist drama that emanated in there - the manager and the one before had such preferences/biased statements to the point all cashiers would have lack of hours, yet get still called in off-hours due to shortage. (I mean come on, what kind of manager are you if you can't even get the entire schedule fixed up nicely?) Not to mention the lines we HAVE to say in order to "have more hours"... not very pleasant in everyone's favors. Plus a waste of time.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf we have a certain "time" to beat handing out orders, then don't make us say "How is our service today?" to our guests - it kills our time to hear opinions, not to mention it makes this company have a desperate image - ESPECIALLY if our actual hours LITERALLY depend on it. ONE MORE THING: for the love of customers, if you wanna keep employees, then for crying out loud, get the recorded hours right - the fact that I have to take photographic proof that I haven't been getting the proper pay for the amount of hours I REALLY have been working, not to mention having to record a document of such as well, is truly something that isn't good at all in your image. Sincerely, a very grumpy worker of a 50+tacos/hour store.

Former Employee – worked at Jack in the Box full-time for more than 10 years

ProsThere used to be a ton...

Cons"The Plan" is only helping a select few and to almost every other employee it has been an early exit...sure stock price looks good but what does that mean for the long term. This is a dying brand that has taken what once was something unique and turned it into a commodity. The senior leadership have convinced themselves they are doing the right thing but it only is so that they can line their pockets and retire early. No heart or soul to this company any longer.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a clue from all the people on this site that have said the same thing...these are not one off comments...it is a trend only to be worsened by all those you forced into early retirement. Now you are scurrying about trying to fill positions because those you thought that were loyal to you really were just waiting for the other shoe to drop. To your credit, you paid a bunch of people to leave the company so you could feel magnanimous.

Prosused to have a culture of taking care of their people and listening to their idea's without reprisal. Actually lived out the Mission to the best of their abiities.

ConsIf you have an idea that is not in line with upper management or disagree with the direction being taken you either step back into line or your days are numbered.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe honest and forthright and truly listen to your people. Stop the parades of management (bosses and their bosses and their bosses) walking tours expecting honest feedback. Look at your turnover numbers!!!!

ProsGood working hours, good pay.

ConsQuixotic leadership following will of the wisp ideas, no tribal knowledge maintained.

Advice to Senior ManagementStudy your company's history. Get a better sense of the group knowledge by removing the fear of reprisal when comments don't follow the required party line. Get outside of your clique of yes men and women. Get out of your office and visit the peasants occassionally without your posse.
