    Cool Place To Work

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsBenefits, Pay, Free Meals, Employee Apartments, Beautiful workplace, easy to move up with in your department or transfer to another department

ConsUnruly guests, Odd Hours, Work all Holidays, High Stress, Redundancy of rules, second hand smoke.

Advice to Senior ManagementBetter evaluations of employees. Some managers base you evaluations on their own personal expectations compared to company standards and expectations.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Used to be a good place to work.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThe casino used to be a good place to work. It had nice benefits, good pay, but in the last five years, it has gone down hill.

ConsThe management of the casino is very poor. The tribe that runs the casino seems to like firing people on a regular basis, so there is a revolving door on all levels. They make this worse by hiring friends that are not qualified for the positions they are hired for.

    Advice to Senior ManagementNone.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

    Friendly culture, bad management

    Host/Cashier (Former Employee) Jackson, CA

ProsVery friendly culture, lots of nice side perks (like cheaper day care and services in the community)

ConsVery bad upper management, interference and short-staffing made our jobs harder than they needed to be, long hours, not enough OSHA type safety precautions taken, very physical job, very few opportunities for advancement

Advice to Senior ManagementStaff appropriately to keep employees fresh, don't cut pay or short change employees,

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

The pay is above average but the lack of communication makes for many unhappy employees

Table Games (Former Employee) Jackson, CA

ProsThe benefits are pretty good if you are a full time employee, company pays well and is one of the only options for work in Amador County.

ConsPoor communication, employees never feel job stability, daily changes depending on which manager is on duty, 2 major layoffs since December 2009, dishonesty between upper management and people working on the floor, nowhere to go to talk about problems with management and issues.

Advice to Senior ManagementMy advice to management would be to treat employees fairly and start being honest with them, when management tells you one thing and the next thing you know the exact opposite happens it makes it hard to trust them.

A great place to start a career in gaming

Casino Shift Manager (Former Employee) Jackson, CA

ProsThe casino has many opportunities for advancement. Their hiring practice is fair and they consider all applicants, regardless of prior gaming experience. Their benefits package is at least in line with industry standards, and in some areas, benefits far surpass the expected.

ConsLocation: Rural mountain roads, 50 miles from large metropolis, some uncommon (but legal) practices under the sheild of "Tribal" employer.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't forget the middle management; they have a lot to offer, more than just toting the company line. Lay-offs are sometimes unavoidable, but they also offer an opportunity to weed out underperformers while utilizing quality people to exercise their broad capabilities. Opportunities are what you make of them; your most recent opportunity was missed.

Please understand the work environment/culture; it's not like a normal company.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Jackson, CA

ProsHigh employee turnover allowing rapid advancement.

If you keep your head down and do just your job and stay ignorant of your surroundings, you will do great!

    ConsIncompetent management and unlimited/abusive power.

The status of being a tribal government allow immunity even to enforceable laws. You waive your rights by working there due to the confusion in jurisdiction, regardless what they claim. They fall under a federal jurisdiction (due to tribal sovereignty), yet if you need help, the Feds will defer to the State of CA. If you ask CA for help, they refer you to the Feds.

    Casino

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Jackson, CA

ProsMy colleagues were fabulous and caring people. Employee dining room with very minimal cost, if any cost at all. Fun atmosphere the majority of the time

ConsWorking in a smoky environment, loss of benefits because of economic downturn, 24/7 operation which really interferes with family/social life

Advice to Senior ManagementOffer rotating weekends off so an employee can have one weekend off per month, offer an employee area outdoors that is more conducive to a non-smoking environment

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
