    Pros

Great people, Mission requirements in the defense industry provide access to the most state of the art equipment and training available.

    Cons

Management loses touch with employees. Safety paperwork and policy become the bottom line regardless if the work environment and project's are actually completed safely.

    Pros

They paid money for services done. My coworkers were nice and good to work with.

    Cons

No training. A false sense of "family" brought on with all the safty talk. Management talked about caring for employees, but didn't.

    Advice to Management

Find local work. It is never s good idea to put all you eggs (ie projects) in one basket (the military).

    Pros

Offices world wide. Diverse market areas, K-12, airports, medical, environmental, mining and minerals and petrochemical.

    Cons

67,000 employees, Major trouble managing their human resources between divisions and regions. Easier to hire new and cheaper employees then hire from within. At the end of your assignment it will be up to you to find your next assignment.

    Advice to Management

Take better care of your loyal employees that have years of service and whom a large sum of money has been invested by Jacobs,

    Pros

Great co-workers and employees. Flexible schedule, very little forced overtime. Great downtown location with good public transportation access.

    Cons

Too many Department Managers that are marginally billable charging to overhead while skilled billable employees are forced to use PTO, time off without pay (convenience leave) or modified part time (21 hours a week) while waiting for projects to startup. Billable employees are discouraged and even prohibited from charging hours to overhead.

    Advice to Management

Take a look at who's charging to overhead. Stop the "just lay them off" solution when work slows. No one believes "People are our greatest asset".

    Pros

Good pay. Good work life balance sometimes. Fellow peers are nice and fun

    Cons

Company gives you no understanding of what ma going on with your work. They won't train you. They won't introduce you to people in your own department.

    Advice to Management

The managers would be nowhere without the engineering disciplines, so treat them with more respect.

    Pros

Nice offices, if you are in the office.

    Cons

Giant management structure with no clear organization. Many competing objectives, with no real team mission. Every regional manager has his own objective, and it's not about the employee. Locker room culture.

    Advice to Management

We are not your assets to burn.

    Pros

Well run company financially. Most work comes from repeat business with long time satisfied customers. Company stresses safety and ethics in project execution.

    Cons

Very conservative company. Sometimes seems to lack innovation and creativity. Publicly owned so there are limited opportunities for employee ownership except through ESPP plan which offers small discount for employees to buy stock. Other benefits are standard for the industry. For Construction Management staff, be prepared to relocate every few years across the country or around the world. Not great for families with children in school. Design Engineers do not have to move and may work share with projects around the world.

    Advice to Management

Create more financial incentive bonus programs for the average employee. Instead of using cash to buy more companies to get even bigger, focus on investing in employee training, incentives and business processes to make current project delivery more innovative and value added to clients. Pay top salaries for top talent. Focus on employee development and retention. Consider becoming employee owned.

    Pros

I appreciate the opportunity to work for an engineering firm. I had the opportunity to learn a lot, but that was because I had a few good Project Engineers who enjoyed teaching and appreciated people learning.

    Cons

Benefits are not good. Too much politics. Not many opportunities for non-engineering disciplines. When your contract is over, you are laid off with no help in finding a job.
