Former Employee – worked at Jacobs UK
Pros – Some decent projects to work on.
Good reputation with clients helps them get and keep work.
They will take safety concerns seriously.
Did allow me to take a sabatical to do voluntary work.
Cons – Support for personal development and training was the minimum needed to keep my professional membership.
Obsessed with paperwork and form filling over the quality of work done.
Top heavy 'do what you're told' culture.
Little opportunity to innovate.
Advice to Senior Management – Remember the following.
-Filling in the risk assessment is not the same thing as assessing the risks
-Completing a timesheet is not the same thing as doing the job.
-Following procedures is not a professional skill.
Also, while not an employee issue- please start paying suppliers more promptly. I know of numerous organisations such as small hotels used for Jacobs business that refuse to invoice the company because it takes 6 to 12 months to recieve payment.
