Politically-motivated, hostile environment with incompetent UK-based IT management/leadership

I worked at Jaguar Land Rover full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Fair HR policies; pleasant folks at the business-end of the organization; NA IT management genuinely interested in promoting growth of an individual - lots of emphasis on training and skill development

    Cons

UK-based IT leadership is inherently political, bureaucratic and lacks experience in rolling out enterprise solutions -leading to slow, inefficient, and inadequate IT systems - that, in turn, will adversely impact growth in a luxury auto segment that demands excellence in every customer interaction. Further, a majority of the employees are not equipped to deliver top-notch solutions/service with the appalling systems environment in which they are expected to work in. Recourse to correct the anomalies do not exist as this is a UK-dominated political organization structure, that is severely out of touch with basic requirements in an NA market - which, ironically, is where the projected growth in the next 5 years is. The UK bias is also evident in the disproportionate needs-to-spend ratio in the IT budget.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

World-class solutions are rarely built by (Porsche-imported) rookies and political beasts, and solely on (questionable) reputation - it takes abundance of competence, hard-work, and commitment - all sadly missing and clearly evident to every employee experiencing the enterprise solution roll-outs over the last few years. Its hard to succeed in today's world with a sub-par IT - time to acknowledge reality and to act responsibly - measure performance based on outcomes experienced by end-users - hold people accountable for delivering 'duds' after spending millions of shareholder capital - (nothing demotivates hard-working, competent people more); hire experienced vendor-management folks - your vendors are ripping you off; and do something about those abysmal working conditions in NA IT headquarters - that needs a makeover now!

I have been working at Jaguar Land Rover

    Pros

Nice vehicles to work on and occasionally drive

    Cons

Not enough work in shop. Techs sit around most days waiting and then have to jump over each other to get the work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pay the techs

    Pros

Great products and potential due to the huge investment by Tata.

    Cons

At some point the job market will open and good evmployees will leave. They manage by fear. Most employees just keep their heads down . Just a job, no longer a career for most.

I worked at Jaguar Land Rover as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

What makes amazing cars even better? The people in the company. Some of the brightest, most passionate, and most helpful people I've met so far in all my internships.

    Cons

Administrative software isn't world's best practice yet for sure, it is taking time to get upgraded but it is slowly getting there. At least the company is recognizing this and making appropriate investments.

I worked at Jaguar Land Rover full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The product is exciting and ever-changing.

    Cons

The corporate culture is one of dishonesty and outright fraud. I have witnessed the upper management lie to retail partners about the financial status of the company and withhold payments to inflate their balance sheet. Their philosophy is to protect home office first despite their financial obligations to partners

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be careful, you are subjecting yourselves to potential civil liability.

I worked at Jaguar Land Rover full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Exciting industry, iconic brands, the best and most luxurious SUV on the market. Great culture at Uk headquarter, difficult environment at the US headquarter. All decision making moved to the UK.

    Cons

Company is a shadow of its old self. Under Ford ownership it was run from the US but had great processes, very high calibre people, currently ran from India and the UK, many of the top notch employees have left. Land Rover is keeping perennially ailing Jaguar brand on life support.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn from the other top luxury car makers, There is a sense of entitlement at Jaguar but they have to earn their place in order to be considered equal to the other luxury marquees.
