I have been working at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Relaxed culture, flexible scheduling, easy going co workers.

    Cons

No real path for advancement both staff wise and department wise. Training is often political and sometimes based on luck of the draw. Management often times does not taken the advice of staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please listen to your staff who are at the front lines. They know what they are talking about. Have a clear path that everyone can look at and discuss. Making decisions in a vacuum or in secret only breeds resentment.

I worked at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

There are a lot of opportunities available but you must know someone within the department or have a direct connection. Once you are within the inner circles everything seems "Golden". With so many department and various job titles the opportunities are truly limitless

    Cons

Far to much nepotism favoritism and fake positions assigned to friends of friends doing "Make up work"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Treat all employees fairly

I worked at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible with time, patient family focused

    Cons

Managment preferences with coworkers, favoritism, lack of enforcement of policy and protocols. The ones that worked did not get credit the ones that do no work still there and doing same thing mgmnt says nothing. Not only they did rare hires within but they hire family from current employees. Talk about conflicts, the spvsr has his mother working you have husbands and wives working in the same Emergency room department. I worked in a department where they take extended breaks for barber, beauty parlor got to the mall, mgmt is aware and does nothing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to take employees voices into consideration, too political and mgmt hangs out with employees. Need to be an authoritive figure opposed to a friend with your employees.

    Pros

Co-workers. Working around these people for so long was like family. The paid-vacation time was great.

    Cons

Inefficient, incompetent management. Highly understaffed and overworked. Many flaws in their system.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get you act together and stop blaming employees for your utter lack of efficient leadership.

    Pros

one of the best reason to work in Jamaica Hospital was the interaction that exist within doctors , nurses and the lab. we all work as a team.

    Cons

I think what challenging me the most is when we have to provide rapid results to doctors specially from the ER area.

I worked at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Individual who brought me in was kind, gracious, and helpful. Showed me the ropes and was patient with me as I learned the system

    Cons

Other individuals were less than kind (ie: talking about me negatively behind my back) and ultimately firing me with no warning.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

None, since they were management. Hopefully, Karma will come back to bite them. Despicable and disgusting people.
