One of the best companies to work for and achieve greatness!

    Operations Lead (Former Employee)
    Pulaski, VA

ProsJames Hardie offers vast opportunities for professional and personal development while achieving meaningful success in your current role.

ConsJAmes Hardie is not a comfortable place for the complacent. The aggressive culture to get better every day might not be a good fit for the conservative, feeble-minded, slacker.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to cultivate the culture of continuous improvement daily. You're definitely on the right track!

    A fine company

    Customer Service (Current Employee)
    Chicago, IL

ProsThe people I worked with were great and the dynamic was fun. The benefits were great as well. Everyone was very respectful.

ConsThe BAU was very monotonous and there was not a lot of recognition for work well done. I never felt appreciated.

    Overwhelmingly Competitive

    Sales (Current Employee)
    Chicago, IL

ProsGood benefits and Pay, Thorough training provided for my position

ConsEXTREMELY competitive environment. You will get the feeling you are being watched and evaluated at every turn. You will feel the need to perform or risk your job. While there I was presented with a spreadsheet comparing me to other employees on every job function. Our boss also pushed us to sell against each other by calling us out individually.

Requesting time off for sickness or personal reasons makes you feel as though you are doing something wrong.

    Great company, environment & people!

    Supply Chain (Current Employee)
    Chicago, IL

ProsExpectations are communicated upfront, flexibility with scheduling, helpful staff, strong leadership that appears to care about development. Best benefits EVER-Great insurance, public transportation program, ability to accrue vacation, feeling of team and management's honesty that if YOU EXPECT from yourself and work to be the best; you'll move up. Free lunches, team building outings, casual dress but a professional environment.

ConsCommunication between departments and facilities lacks which effects service.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep treating your employees well and selling honesty to new employees and you'll keep growing

Lots of autonomy and leadership opportunities

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsLots of hardworking, smart people. JH offers an excellent product to its customers and excellent benefits to its employees. All employees have a lot of independence to try new strategies/programs. Management encourages taking risks.

ConsSometimes management exhibits a lack of strategic planning and internal processes that could make a job simpler/more efficient.

    Chaotic work culture

    Technical (Former Employee)

ProsCompensation, health benefits are more than fair. Personal drive, aggression is usually rewarded. As long as you give management what they need, you can get a lot of freedom in your job.

ConsAbsolutely no planning. Quick and dirty patch-work over permanent fix is encouraged by management. Even technical function is led with shot-sighted mentality. A few powerful people run the place in a very autocratic manner. You need to have a god-father to climb the ladder. The work culture doesn't always encourage collaborative efforts towards common goal.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement could listen to her technical staff, at least in technical matters.

Great company, but not a career!

    Product Manager (Former Employee)
    Chicago, IL

ProsA market leading company with a chance to work with innovative, intelligent and aggressive co-workers. A lot of energy throughout the organization and very driven to produce results.

ConsIt is a turn and burn environment. Accept it for what it is and don't anticipate a long run with the company. They turn over highly qualified employees on regular basis. Much of the churn is in response to market/economic cycles, but there is not much of a second chance. Produce and move up or move on.
