I worked at James Hardie full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good pay, great benefits. Very casual. Could be a phenomenal company, if not for all of the cons listed below.

    Cons

If you're not part of the "good 'ol boys club", you're de-valued and completely disregarded regularly. They can be very generous and supportive, but they will turn on you in a heartbeat and not bat an eye! Salaried management has no idea how to manage people, nor do they know how to plan or forecast for future manufacturing. There is absolutely NO communication, a problem that everyone knows about, but does nothing about. There is no leadership and no organization at all. And NO ACCOUNTABILITY!!! PATHETIC!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Worry less about lunch and worry more about planning, REAL planning, not just numbers to upper management that don't mean anything.

I have been working at James Hardie full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Fair compensation, smart people and very efficient communication and decision-making styles.

    Cons

Lack of appreciation, lack of diversity mindset. A lot of turn overs and rotating jobs made job performance inconsistent. Very male-dominated culture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Top management did not ask 'right' questions. The company must do more to understand the customer instead of sales, sales, sales... The decentralized structure almost made every region their only kingdom.

    Pros

James Hardie offers vast opportunities for professional and personal development while achieving meaningful success in your current role.

    Cons

JAmes Hardie is not a comfortable place for the complacent. The aggressive culture to get better every day might not be a good fit for the conservative, feeble-minded, slacker.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to cultivate the culture of continuous improvement daily. You're definitely on the right track!

    Pros

Good benefits and Pay, Thorough training provided for my position

    Cons

EXTREMELY competitive environment. You will get the feeling you are being watched and evaluated at every turn. You will feel the need to perform or risk your job. While there I was presented with a spreadsheet comparing me to other employees on every job function. Our boss also pushed us to sell against each other by calling us out individually.

Requesting time off for sickness or personal reasons makes you feel as though you are doing something wrong.
